I have been developing a bit of a gut over the past couple years. However lately ive noticed that the fat is starting to goto my chin and pecs ((moobs anyone?)) And no I do not have an athletic build or anything like that. Just an average body. Is 180lbs to heavy for a guy my height? Should I lose some weight?

Note that some of the weight are due to the heavy bone structure of a person. Men are also different from women.

One of the good ways of measuring if you are fat is by knowing your body-mass index. Search google. There are many free BMI calculators around. They also give the normal range: 18 - 24 (I think.)

Still, this is not a perfect indicator. One can have heavy bmi because he has much muscle. Also look at your waist line. This is more ideal for guys because for men, fat usually is stored in the gut. You can quickly not the change in your fat level by noting the increase in the waist line.

I am also an actuarial major (the one that determines premiums for life insurance and such.) My professor has told us that for the guys they need to check this:
Stomach in and chest out, but if the gut is still protruding further than his chest, it is a very very bad sign. (His premium will naturally increase.)

Just look at yourself critically in the mirror. Do you think you need to lose weight? One of the best reducers is jogging or running. You do not need to go to the gym. Although this does not guarantee increase in muscle size, nevertheless will guarantee decrease in fat proportion. Exercise is also good for the heart. Try it.

I'd say yes that's too heavy if you don't have a muscular build. You can obviously see that for yourself with the fat on the gut and moobs creeping in. :)

You should definitely lose some weight and do it right by working out and building a little muscle. It really depends on the moobs. Sometimes even if you diet pretty good and lose some fat in the belly area, those dang moobs are tough to target and require some chest exercises to strengthen the pec muscles and help burn off the fat.

You should be aiming to lose about 20 or 30 pounds. Diet and cardio is the answer. Light weight training is important as well. The best thing to do is do your own research on Google, come up with your own plan, and follow it religiously.

In a year or two, you could have a six pack. Or not. It depends on how tough you are. Not just toughness to get through a long uphill run, but toughness to resist gorging on tasty treats.

Yes.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

Your waist size is more important than your overall weight.Too much fat around the middle is not healthy for males .This can lead to heart attack and stroke..Do you know if your blood pressure is elevated?.Do you have a lot of saturated fat in your diet? The best way of reducing a large gut is by exercise and diet. Walking is the best way to reduce.Start off gradually and increase the distance to about 4 kilometers a day. You can divide the distance and do it in stages as long as you complete the total distance.of 4 ks a day Or if you have a walking machine use that. You don't have to go on a strict diet, just as long as you reduce the fat content. The idea is to reduce your waist measurement to 40 inches or below.Don't worry about the scales you want WAIST loss not weight loss.

that sounds about like I was a few years ago. yeah, that's a little on the heavier side, but definitely not majorly overweight or obese. For your height, you should aim for 165 or 170.

Don't listen to online BMI calculators. It's all baloney unless you have your BMI professionally calculated with your fat/muscle ratios in context.

Eat muesli two hours before working out to boost fat burning as you train. Slow to digest, muesli takes longer to obtain through your system, so is less probably be turned into fat and still provides you with a good energy boost.

People who plan their weekly meals tend to be more successful at losing weight than those that don’t. Plan your dishes to add healthy carbs such as special potato and wholegrain pasta, vegetables and lean proteins, buy all of the ingredients in advance and don’t be tempted to consume out or order in.

Suck that in. Consciously hold in and contract your stomach muscles while you’re walking, sitting pictures desk or making the meal. This will help to strengthen your ab muscles and your core, and bring you one step closer to a new flatter stomach.
