You need to get some real professional advice, because it is essential that your choice matches with that of your relatives, why because despite the fact that red is an auspicious colour, there is something called a red rag to the bull. Despite blue being sober and blue blood being royal, blue mood indicates sadness. Green despite being soothing to the eyes is associated with envy. In your case, you cannot afford to take any risk, why not ask them their preferences.

dont know your background.....but here r a few suggestions
a typical indian family wud certainly expect a saree......a suit if they r more relaxed.
but if you have a western background.....a nice set of formal trousers with a blouse...or a knee length skirt....or a cool dress
whatever you wear...match the colours, the style should be simple but classy....dont use plunging necklines and figure hugs........don't accesorize too much... and be comfortable so that you are not concsious

first of all, try to know about ur in-law's likings, and wear according to their likings. then only, u can attract them easily. 'First impression is the best impression' - so try to turn their attention towards u, at first time itself

It's not important what you wear. But if you want to impress them, don't refer to going to the bathroom as "taking a dump."

It's important to be yourself. You might research and found out what they liked, dressed accordingly - but that's only temporary. How about the future occasions? Be yourself, but to be on the safe side, dress conservative :-)
