Hi there, I had the same thing a few years ago. I was told it was called an evaporation line.

Apparenlty its just the shadow of liquid thats passed over the test line and has dried out.
You can tell the difference as evap lines are usually grey of colour or not as dark as the control line.
A positive line is usually of the same thickness and colour as the control line and should have some colour in it too.

You can also get false positives, its more common to get false negatives.
I was trying to concieve for a while and had a few false positives that got my hopes up badly.
Good luck if you are trying to concieve!
Hope this has helped you

Apparently what causes it is a chemical in the test called an evaporation line. Its definately not reliable after 10 mins. I dont know of anyone who has got a false positive result unless they were indeed pregnant and had followed the test correctly. You can certainly get false negatives though. Goodluck x

Well you could be pregnant. With my 1yr old son I tested 12 times (different tests) in 4days and it came back Negative. Like a month later I found out I was pregnant because I kept getting sick. Then 9mths later I had a little baby boy.

Oh and Im 29weeks pregnant with this pregnancy it showed Negative and then it showed up a dark line and a VERY light line. So yea pregnancy test dont agree with me. Good Luck!

OOH and the BESSST time to test is in the early morning when you REALLY gotta pee.

this is the test reacting thats all and thats the reason why it has a read within time for the correct result.Yes false positives do occur but it is usually due to the evaporation line being read as a positive or being read after the time limit.

some false positive stem from very early miscarriages you get a positive and then the next day (or week) you get your period cause the fetus spontaneously aborted it self :~(

good luck!!!

Simple chemical reaction kinetics.
Quick response = higher concentration
Slow response = low concentration

Thats why they give a time for a proper result.
