as soon as I hit submit, I get a message someone has outbid me. How is this possible so quickly? Can you set things up to where every time someone out bids you, your bid automatically increases to the highest bid?

Ebay will automatically bid for you. So let's say your maximum you're willing to pay is $50, then ebay will continue to bid for you if other people bid a price under $50. So that's why people get in so fast, cos its done automatically. I suggest wait until the last 10 mins of the auction. Putting in bids earlier than a day could bump the price up too high. Good luck

What happens is this, if you bid and say place $100 on the item and the previous best bid is $20, you'll win the bid at $21. If someone else comes along and bids $50, the price goes to $51 in your favour, so that person (the one that bid $50) will get a message saying they were outbid.

When you bid, put in your maximum you are willing to pay. eBay will automatically raise it only the next bid higher than the previous high bidder. It is a good idea to bid the very last minute.

For example, a shirt is going for $30. Someone else has a max bid of $50. If you are willing to pay a max of $60, eBay will automatically set the new price at $50.50 or something like that.

Has anyone bid on the item already? If so,you havent bid over their highest bid....

Your bid does automatically increase when someone else bids,as long as they dont go over your high bid.If an item is at $9.99 and someone has a bid and you bid $15 and their high bid is $25...well you havent gone over their high bid,so ebay will continue to bump their bid up until it reaches thier max bid.Theres no way of knowing what someone else has bid so you gotta think how much you're willing to bid on something. If you think the item is worth $30...then bid $30 even though it starts at $10....if anyone bids...you'll still have high bid unless they bid like $35.....makes sense?

You can set a range in which you are willing to pay.

Say for example "Joe" put that he will pay in between $200 and $400. and then he goes off and has a coffee.

the "bob" comes along and tries to bid $398. ebay will automatically tell bob that he has been outbid. but if bob bid $401. he would be the highest bidder.

when you are placing your bid you can set your range in which price you are willing to pay.

i recommend bidding in the last minute of the auction because that way noone can outbid you, it's worked for me every time

good luck

Yes, it's the maximum bid you enter. Someone else entered a bid higher than your offer (your maximum bid).

Sometimes you may get outbid in the last few seconds. Just remember: don't bid so high that what you are buying can be found locally both cheaper and brand new.

You mean that once you enter your highest bid, someone immediately comes in with a bid even higher than yours?

Either you need to make your bids even higher, or something is wrong with eBay (because I know it can automatically bid for you PROVIDED the other guy's bid isn't higher than YOUR highest bid yet).

Sorry if my wording seems confusing.

Yep. Sometimes they get a friend to deliberately bid higher, so it makes the bidding more frantic. Sometimes a bidder watches all the other bidding going on, then when the time gets lower and lower, they come it with a high bid, getting them the item. It happens ALL the time.

ok cause when u bid it asks u what is ur highest bid so someone could have outbid u automatically
ex item is currently$3.24
you bid$3.50
well the person before u said that the highest they would bid is 4.00 so they beat u? get it?

yes, it already works that way. If someone else puts in a bid for 30 dollars, and you only bid 20, e-bay will automatically bid for him/her till it passes his/her limit.
The trick to e-bay is to put in the MOST you'll pay and forget about it. If you win, that's great, if not then you would have paid too much if you increase your maximum.
