My most favorite is definitely "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." I, too, still have the worn copy from childhood.
Also close: "Through the Looking Glass," "The Lord of the Rings," "Watership Down," and "The House at Pooh Corner."

Charlotte's Web.
I still have the paperback copy I bought in 1971 when I was in third grade. It was a hefty 35 cent purchase!
And I read it at least once per year. It's just a great, great book.

I like the spooky ones
Three Billie Goats Gruff ( the troll)
Snow White ( the witch)
Three Little Pigs ( the big bad wolf)
Jack and the Beanstalk ( the giant)
And the nasty , diabolical gingerbread man who met his demise by the fox.

Michael Ende - MOMO.. It's such a great story, you should read it to your kids, and for yourself.
Neverending Story - Michael Ende is great as well, so much better than the movie!
And about fairy tales, i love "The little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen, so much better than the movie, again!! i love the story, but i hate the Disney version..
