i think if he hasnt pass away from the plane crush ,he would have good 5-6 year left in him because he was 32 at the time and he was a catcher. Catcher sometimes get worned out because they had to clutch behind the plate good 1 and half hour a day. With that say , if he was alive , he would be a HOF caliber player.

Thurman was a true warrior. In his 10th year in 1978 he played in 154 and played in 97 games in 1979 prior to his tragic accident.

He simply would not let the pain he was in interfere with him being on that field and leading his team.

Had he not died at an early age he could have played 3 to 5 years catching or 3 to 6 year part time catching and DH.

Since he was loved so much buy George and his teammates I'm sure there's a good chance he would have been a coach of some kind with the team once he retired from playing.

Catching was wearing him down greatly. After his 1975-77 peak, his hitting stats fell off A LOT in '78 and were crumbling to dust in '79. Had he lived, he would have soon been playing 1B or DH, maybe for the Indians, and wasn't in position to put up the sort of seasons or career totals that would attract the attention of Hall voters.

Very good peak, worthy of his AL MVP and ROY Awards, but the Hall was not to be his final destination.

He was 32 in 1979. His knees were hurting, I'd say he had 3-4 years of catching, then he would have been the Yankees DH for another 2-3 years.

If you ever saw his Yankeeography he was pretty beat up. I think might have played 4 or 5 more years retiring at about 36. Or however long his knees would allow him to play.

probably about 1983, or just late enough to get his 2,000th hit.
Then he would have made the hall of fame.
