If you were elected president right now, how would you handle the war on terror?

I'd take the politics out of the war and let our armed forces put an end to it by any means necessary. I'd "turn loose the dogs of war"!

I know this won't be a popular answer, but this is how I would handle the war on terror.

First, I would leave the troops in Iraq until the progress reports come through in September. If the progress report indicates that violence is down but the Government has made no strides in getting their infrastructure together, I would pull the troops out. If the Government has made significant (and I really mean that) progress towards improvement, I would leave the troops there until the next progress report in January.

I would begin to send more troops (yes, more troops) to Afghanistan because Al-Terrorists are getting stronger there and the Taliban is trying to make a comeback. The war in Afghanistan would not be anywhere near as drawn out as the war in Iraq, so I do not think that this owuld be a problem.

Where the Department of Homeland Security is concerned, I would SLIGHTLY increase anti-terrorism funding to nyc and other major cities in threat of an attack.

So there you have it. That's how I'd handle the War on terror. I'm not in favor of immediate withdrawal of troops because its not logical. I say wait to September.

I would focus troops purely on defense in Iraq. reduce the amount of troops that are there, to reduce casualties from terrorists walking up into a crowd dressed like our troops and blowing themselves up. I would devise an hand sign that changed weakly so our troops would know each other from the enemy.
The money saved, i would redirect to covert counter-terrorism, to fight terrorists on their own battlefield, in the shadows.

Pull our troops back onto American soil, and make a single televised announcement to the Middle East. "For every bomb that goes off in one of our cities, one of your cities disappears. Now, if you don't want that to happen, you might want to have a little 'talk' with your radical friends."

make Iraqis responsible for their own country and track down and kill terrorists wherever they might be...make our borders & ports more secure
