make sure it is done professionally. if you dont' you may suffer camber problems that will cause your tires to bald unevenly. you shouldn't need to worry about htis but if you lower your car too much you will also have to worry about speed bumps, curbs that the nose will scrape.

In my humble opinion, lowering your car is BAD.
For the simple reason, most road isn't perfect level, and your car manufacturer have considered road conditions.
Car body very likely to impact tire or road.
If you wanted to be flashy do something that doesn't effect your car's function. Such as painting your car bright, with go-faster stripes.
If you wanted more performance, maybe install a proper stabilizer bar that links both front, or both back wheels. Increase tire size up to one inch.
I so hate the previous owner of my GEO metro for trying to be cool with inverted out wheel hub. The car body hits the wheel almost at every cornering, and when car full with passangers.

While it may look cool, it will ride a bit rougher, depending on just how much you lower it and how it is done. Being lower it will also bottom out more over curbs, speed bumps and such. You can also bind up CV joints and put undue stress on transmission output shafts if not done properly.
Other than personal preference in looks, there is no real advantage to lowering it.

Any time you change the stance of a vehicle from that set at the factory, you're inviting problems with suspension bottoming out, tire alignment problems, handling difficulties and ride quality changes. I'd rethink altering the ride height of your Ion. Thanks for the two points. Good luck!

Why do that? The car is made as it is, why alter it? You want to look like a freak?
