I have a 512 MB USB Flash Drive card. If i use it will it "give" me more memory into my computer? Like, if i were to play a game which requires more MBs could i just insert the card, and presto? Or are these cards only for transfering info from one computer to the next?

I have one more question, whats the difference between RAM and Hard Drive?

Thanks in advance!

USB Flash Drive Card
A small, portable flash memory card that plugs into a computer’s USB port and functions as a portable hard drive. USB flash drives are touted as being easy-to-use as they are small enough to be carried in a pocket and can plug into any computer with a USB drive. USB flash drives have less storage capacity than an external hard drive, but they are smaller and more durable because they do not contain any internal moving parts

USB Flash drive can be used to Boot a PC, transfer data from 1 PC to another but they do not make a PC run faster.

RAM
random-access memory: the most common computer memory which can be used by programs to perform necessary tasks while the computer is on; an integrated circuit memory chip allows information to be stored or accessed in any order and all storage locations are equally accessible

Hard Disk (also known as HDD)
In a personal computer, a hard disk drive (HDD) is the mechanism that controls the positioning, reading, and writing of the hard disk, which furnishes the largest amount of data storage for the PC.
A hard disk is part of a unit, often called a "disk drive," "hard drive," or "hard disk drive," that stores and provides relatively quick access to large amounts of data on an electromagnetically charged surface or set of surfaces.

A hard disk/drive unit comes with a set rotation speed varying from 4500 to 7200 rpm. Disk access time is measured in milliseconds. Although the physical location can be identified with cylinder, track, and sector locations, these are actually mapped to a logical block address (LBA) that works with the larger address range on today's hard disks

the USB flash drive does not "give" you more memory for the computer. It is a different kind of "memory" entirely.

When people talk about "memory" for a computer, they are talking about RAM. RAM is basically your computer's short term memory, it keeps track of everything that is going on on the computer right now, until it is closed or the computer is turned off. Once you close a program or shut the computer off...that's it...everything that was in "memory" is gone. It's not in memory anymore, and it can't be called back up. The only way to increase this memory is to install more RAM into your computer.

Your hard drive and your flash drive, on the other hand, would be more accurately described as "storage space" It's like the "long term memory" for your computer. When you save a file, or install a program, or do anything on the computer that will remain there after the computer is shut down, you are writing it to the hard drive or some other form of storage.

Your 512 mb usb flash drive is basically like an old floppy disk. You can put it into your computer, save files to it, take it out and call that file up on another computer. It has 512mb storage space on it, which is equivalent to over 355 old floppy drives.

Sorry but i doubt the game can use the flashdrive as a storage for memory.

As for the RAM and Hard Drive. The hard drive has programs you installed and files you have saved. It also contains the Operating System like: Windows Vista, other version of it, Linux, Centos, etc..

The RAM is random access memory. It basically is not affected by the files u save. I think it comes in sizes up to 2GB and some computers can have two modules for it. The more RAM you have, the better the performance is on your computer. Faster, it can take a lot of programs running and it would not freeze. try it =]

USB Flash Drive will not give you more memory to play games, etc. It can only be used to store and transfer files.

A hard drive is where your perminant files are stored on your computer. Even if your computer loses power completely, the stuff on your hard drive remains. Anything under C:\ is your hard drive.

RAM is memory that the computer uses to run programs and display graphics. RAM is completely erased if the computer loses power. RAM is MUCH faster than the memory on your hard drive. If your system runs out of RAM it will start to use the page file, which is a file on your hard drive that pretends like it's RAM. Once that happens your computer start the go REALLY slow. Many years ago used system RAM to display graphics. Now, RAM is always built onto display adapters.

I will explain to you the difference between a hard drive and RAM first, since it will help to answer your second question. RAM is normally inaccessible to the user. It is used by the system when processing data. A hard drive, on the other hand, is where your computer stores data for future use (This is where all of the files you have, such as office documents are stored). A USB flash drive is detected as a hard drive to your computer. Really, the only way to upgrade RAM in your computer is to install more physically.

you can use the flash drive for additional ram, but it would be better to get more ram. ram is random access memory. what you see on the computer is what they ram is showing you. the hard drive is what saves everything. you can make the usb into more ram by doing the following.
1) go to system in the control panel
2)go to the advanced tab
3)under the section for performance, click the settings box
4)go under the advanced tab
5)under the section for virtual memory click change
6)find the drive(usb slot) that your usb is plugged into
7)choose the custom size bubble and set the intial size and maximum size to the size of your jumpdrive
8)hit ok and reset your computer

usb is not the fastest thing, but it will help you out a little.

Flash drives will not make your computer go faster. They're used for documents or pictures that you transfer from one computer to the next. If you want your computer to run faster you will need to install ram onto it. It involves opening your computer up. If you want more ram go to best buy with your computer manual and they will show you how. Hard drive is just a bunch of space on your computer to store things like games, the computers now-a-days have plenty so that you dont even need to worry about it

No. Its like a CD only you can use it heaps of times.

RAM is temporary storage. Say if you open Microsoft Word, the programs saves everything your doing onto the RAM. Microsoft word is still saved on the Hard drive (Along with everything else) but the temporarily used data goes onto the RAM. That's why if you have lots of programs open all the time its faster if you have more ram. RAM clears itself automatically everytime you restart your computer while your Hard drive doesnt.

1) I don't think it works that way
2) RAM is random access memory which allows for temporary storage. For example, your purse. You carry it around it with you. You store things you need like ID, makeup, etc. The bigger it is the more you have access to. That how RAM is.

Hard drive is the storage of all your belongings inside purse and outside of it. Stuff in your car, your bedroom, house (if you own one).
