They were most definitely the Greatest Generation! They only made one mistake - they made the Baby-Boomers. Most Baby-Boomers and their pathetic spoiled whiny offspring have all but tried to destroy this country. They avoid inconvenience at any cost, even if it means danger to our country. They oppose anything that may interfere with their good time. They have no guts for hard work and harsh realities like their parents and grandparents did.
Sagacious, that's hilarious how you had to do a google search to find some WWII vet dissenters.
BarB- we didn't start this war either. The @ssholes who flew planes into our buildings did.

They would think we have lost our resolve.
Many of you who advocate “knowing the history” would be well served to take your own advice and dig a little deeper.
Yes the US followed an isolationist policy prior to WWI and our entry into that war was almost too late.
After the WWI we once again returned to an isolationist policy. As early as 1935 FDR was expressing concern over recent developments in Europe. Chamberlain had made the mistake of adopting and trying to maintain an appeasement/negotiation policy for far too long and had put the entire continent in jeopardy. In Aug of 39 he could see the writing on the wall and was desperate to get the US mobilized and ready for what was to come. The US had all but eliminated the military after WWI and was in no way prepared for a minimal conflict much less a world war and FDR new it. But because of lack public support he was unable to make any progress toward getting the US ready for the coming war. If it hadn’t been for the attack on Pearl Harbor it’s most likely we would be living in a very different world than we live in today and not in a good way either.
The bombing of Dresden is controversial yes, but at the time deemed necessary to thwart any possibility of a regrouping of German forces to mount a counterattack against the Soviets advance from the east. There were also intelligence reports from the Soviets that there were loaded troop trains in Dresden headed for the eastern front to impede the Soviet advance into Germany. This later turned out not to be true but at the time was identified as an appropriate target.
You historians would be better served if you would learn to stop “cherry picking” your information and facts and take a look at the whole picture.
War is an ugly, horrendous, despicable thing, but unfortunately at times in history, has been necessary. People die, get maimed and lives are lost on all sides of the conflict, civilian and soldier alike. That is the reality of war. The US has not gone into a conflict since WWII where we had the resolve to do what was necessary regardless of public opinion or cost to human life. There is no such thing as a “fair” war. By its nature it is a literal situation of survival of the fittest. He who has the best, biggest, meanest, toys and the sneakiest, smartest, most dedicated soldiers using them wins. You cannot win a “PC” war. By virtue of the fact that a group is trying to keep it civilized and “PC” indicates that they do not have the necessary commitment to win at all costs and victory in war requires that commitment. That is why the US has not “won” a war since WWII. A cease fire is not a victory, it is just a temporary delay in hostilities; the preverbal wound that never heals.
Would the world be better off if brave men had chosen not to defend what was good and right even if it seemed inappropriate at the time to those who were not directly involved? I’m thinking no, but that’s for each individual to decide.
No one hates war more than the soldier and for obvious reasons. For centuries only the soldier knew just how ugly war is. Vietnam changed all that and brought the horrors of war right into the public’s living room. As a result, the nation has lost its stomach for war even when it may be necessary. My only hope is that when push comes to shove we regain the commitment and resolve to defeat our enemy so soundly that they never have the ability to attack us again. Unfortunately, I’m afraid it going to take another attack on US soil before we, as a nation regain, our resolve. And I’m not talking another building crashing down as we seem to think that’s not worth fighting over now only 6 years after the fact. It appears it will have to be one of those unspeakable things that won’t be believed until it happens.
"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." A Einstien

I refuse to talk to anyone who says war for oil, because they obviously are uniformed and just spout off hippy phrases they heard from other deadbeat anti-Americans.
The people who say their fathers serve and think the war is illegal they might want to find out the facts because that's also a FALSE statement, they need to watch more than ABC & CBS who report only the bad, when there has been progress made Al-Quida leaders captured, schools and malls, and churches are open, we are about half way on the bench marks, 8 passed 8 failed 2 unsure.
They also are using agenda setting which is what the media does, it's promoting one side, like saying their Dad's who were vets are against the war, they are trying to make it look like all vets feel that way and that's not true at all.
People can believe what they want, but you can't do whatever you want and say oh it's my freedom, there are things you still can't do (it's not an anarchy) why can't people comprehend that? You can't yell fire in a crowded building that isn't on fire, or slander peoplle, why do liberals ignore that so often.
I can't believe people have to try to persuaded people to be on the side of their own country. That is sick in the head, that people put their politics over defending their country from what could be another disaster if we leave without finishing the job, and will be another disaster for the Iraqi's if we leave without finishing the job.
If you believe the war is illegal and it's war for oil and you can chooseyour politics over your country with a clear conscience that is scary. I couldn't knowing I was doing something dishonest, like lying to promote negative propaganda against my own country, but maybe that's just me

as quickly as Abu Ghraib hit the information we lost our ethical extreme floor. we are able to nonetheless win this conflict however the end result hangs on a razors side. on the grounds that our media is purely involved by merchandising thoughts and air time this places us at a disadvantage as thoughts of our troops mistreating prisoners whilst remoted and distant, is extremely reprensible. the protection rigidity could have been allowed shelter the challenge inhouse and far flung from the prying eyes of the first public till appropriatly extreme punishment have been administered. yet hey CNN had to sell airtime and that they performed suited into the terrorists palms. purely my humble opinion A.C.

I find it humorous that many of the libs find their links about WW2 vets hating Bush. Most of these links are to blog sites. Yiiippppeeee!
I googled this info myself. Yes there are groups of vets that don't like Bush or his actions, but there are just as many that do.
Same as back in WW2. Many of the soldiers that were fighting did not like FDR at all, but then, there were many that did.
In talking with vets myself from Vietnam, Korea and WW2. I've heard many of them say that after 9/11, we all wanted some kind of revenge. We got that and more by ousting the Taliban in Afghanistan. However, what many people don't realize is that like in WW2, we can't stop at one point and say ,"okay, there gone now". We didn't do that in WW2, we TOOK Japan and we TOOK Germany.
We are also now as we speak, TAKING the middle east. Since that is where Islamic radicalism was born, and continues to thrive. So there also is where it needs to die.
Iraq is just a beginning, not an end. This coming from vets.
I wonder which ones the libs are talking to?

This guy doesn't know anything! What an idiot. This is a perfect example of how the government fails us. They took control of funding our schools and they turn out morans like this. People that can't look at history and look behind what the government tells you are simply ignorant.
It is every PATRIOTIC AMERICANS DUTY to question the Government. Just take a look at what our founding fathers were thinking during the creation of our country.
Patriotic Quotes for True Americans
Read these great quotes as you think of our government as of 2007.
“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence—it is force.” – George Washington
“No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him.” – Thomas Jefferson
“The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants…God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such rebellion; what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms!” – Thomas Jefferson
“Under the laws of nature, all men are born free, every one comes into the world with a right to his own person, which includes the Liberty of moving and using it at his own will. This is what is called personal Liberty, and is given him by the Author of nature, because necessary for his own sustenance.” – Thomas Jefferson
“I hold it, that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.” – Thomas Jefferson
“The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.” – Thomas Jefferson
“It is weakness rather than wickedness which renders men unfit to be trusted with unlimited power.” – John Adams
“They that can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither Liberty nor safety.” – Benjamin Franklin
“Make yourself a sheep and the wolves will eat you.” – Benjamin Franklin
“If ye love wealth greater than Liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” – Samuel Adams
This is but a small part of what just a very few of the Founding Fathers had to say about government. Only a fool would deny that they had an inherent distrust for government. There have been many other people who have warned us against the evils of government. Some of them were even modern day patriots.
“The right to revolt has sources deep in our history.” – Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas
“Anyone who needs to be persuaded to be free, doesn’t deserve to be.” – L. Neil Smith
“Give government the weapons to fight your enemy and it will use them against you.” – Harry Browne
“Patrick Henry did NOT say, ‘ Give me safety or give me death’ ”—John Stossel ABC 20/20
“Civilization does not have to perish. The brutes are winning only by default.” – Ayn Rand
“A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.” – Edward R. Morrow
“But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of Liberty, and that you must pay that price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government.” – Andrew Jackson
Even some of the statists and traitors of their times had a higher regard for freedom than the average sheep walking around today. (I mention these traitors and statists only for comparison to the traitors and statists of today.)
“A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one!” – Alexander Hamilton
“It has been observed that pure Democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this.” – Alexander Hamilton
“We would rather die on our feet, than live on our knees.”—Franklin Delano Roosevelt
“No man is good enough to govern another man without that other’s consent.” – Abraham Lincoln
I wanted you to know what your founding fathers were thinking in there time, just in case our school system failed to mention our heroes in history. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

They would be ashamed at how far left the world has become. The WWII era was an era where everyone stood behind the President, showed respect for his authority, and supported our troops, rather than spitting at them and criticizing every war we go into. And back then, the media and politicians were not allowed to control warfare.

Well, I have two cousins and an Uncle who served in WW2.....and served honorably.
All of them say the same thing....this war with Iraq is illegal, not needed and that Bush is an idiot.
WE didn't start WW2.... The Germans and the Japanese did....and WE didn't get into the war with combat forces until the Japanese attacked the fleet at Pearl Harbor.
There is a big difference between a war that is being fought worldwide to knock back the Japanese and the German Army and the current fiasco orchestrated by Bush and his thugs. The illegal invasion of a sovereign country that was no threat to us is not the same thing.
And, our military are dying everyday for nothing.
And, the longer this war lasts - the longer that madman in Washington keeps extending our troops deployment, the more atrocities you will see. In addition to Haditha, count also Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and all of the other hellish places we know nothing about.
And, to the Iraqi people, we are the nazis.
I don't pay attention to what Kucinich says...he's an idiot.

They'd beat the tar out of them and then exile them. Not only are they whiners and defeatists, they also appease our enemies, spit on Christianity, try to end the great American traditions and culture that made America, and are more worried about offending a minority or a foreigner than keeping this country safe and secure. Modern liberals detest personal responsibility and accountability.
Both my grandfathers fought in WWII, and they both support this war. Do they like war, heavens no, but they understand it's necessity, and why we are fighting it.
