My son was. He was huge at 5lbs 8oz, he came home in 2 days at 5lbs even. He had sucking issues and we had to wake him to feed every 3 hours until he was 6 weeks old. He never slept from 8 weeks old until a few months ago because he has a deficiency in his liver of an enzyme that helps him fall and stay asleep. He is slow with talking but very intelligent.
He is very healthy and we know how lucky we are. I do wish that he could have had a few more weeks before he was born but he wanted to meet us.
I know a woman who's baby was born only 3 1/2 weeks early and was in the hospital for a month because she wasn't ready to breath on her own yet. Even before they are born they do all develop at different rates. We were lucky!

My first came at 35 weeks.
He was 6 lb. 3 oz. and spent five days in the hospital -- he had jaundice and needed some help learning to suck.
I had received steroid shots a few weeks before he was born (preterm labor -- we thought he was coming at 31 weeks), so his lungs were fully developed.
After the first three weeks or so, there was no noticeable difference between my little man and other babies his age, except that he was pretty tiny. He's always been right on target -- or, more often, way ahead -- for all developmental milestones.

Well, hi. My son was born at 35 weeks. He weighed 4 pounds, 6 ounces. He stayed in the NICU a total of 11 days. He was on a respirator for breathing for a couple days. He developed jaundice and had to be under a light for a while. He was about to get out, and (after the first and only time I tried breast feeding) he quit eating completely. They were just about to do a feeding tube when he started to eat again.
He developed GERD after a few months, which is common in preemies--about 80% I believe. He also developed a milk allergy, but I don't think it was due to his prematurity.
Once he came home, he ate very well and gained weight so fast. He's two now and he's at the 10th percentile for weight and the 5th percentile for height (in my opinion his 'smallness' is purely genetic and nothing to do with him being a preemie). He does not appear to have had any lasting effects from being born early. He is at or above all developmenal milestones. We're so proud. :)

My daughter came @ 32 wks and was 2lbs 13 oz (still very small) .. Her lungs werent quite mature yet but improved within a wk. If it hadnt been hospital policy to keep her until 4 lbs she would have been able to go home then but it took her 28 days to reach 4 lbs 1 oz. In that time she never had jaundice thankfully but was anemic and required a blood transfusion at 3 wks old. She is perfectly healthy today at 2 1/2 yrs old. I believe the drs told me she had a 90 some percent chance at surviving and with every day/ wk that passes the odds improve significantly

My youngest son was born at 36 weeks due to low amnio fluid. He was diagnosed with Acid Reflux at 6 weeks. He out grew it by 6 months. He has minor allergies.
He is now 3. He didn't spend any extra time in the hospital.
It depends on the weight and condtion of the little one.

My fifth baby was born at 35 weeks. She was perfectly healthy, just a bit small (2400 grams or thereabouts). Had no breathing problems or problems keeping her temperature up, just a little bit of jaundice for a couple of weeks, but it didn't need any phototherapy, just nursing in direct sunlight through a window. The night she was born, the nurses wanted to keep her in special care with them (it was just a small room off the maternity ward front desk), but she squawked so much that they ended up giving in and bringing her to me, and she calmed down straight away (just wanted to be on the boob constantly lol). She came home with me on day three.

I had a high risk pregnancy, in which I was on bed rest from the time I was 5 months. I can tell you that when I hit 35 weeks my doctor took me off bed rest and told me if I went into labor they would not stop it from progressing.
