Use a source that can be cross referenced and include the source by paraphrasing in the body of the paper and at the same time cite the source in the reference section.
Make your work in APA format and give credit to your sources. In some instances you will need permission to reproduce the work you are citing by the original author.

Do you mean to protect your work from being plagiarized? Copyright it. Even if it's not published, you've legally claimed it as yours. It is against the law for anyone to copy it and claim it as theirs.
Or to protect yourself from plagiarizing something? Don't copy it... :-)

My thought is to type your papers, etc from the top of your head. You'll be more likely to use your own words. If you are typing a paper from your notes, you may be accidentally typing the same phrases that you read from your sources. And when in doubt, cite anything that you think may not be common knowledge.

in hs they made it clear to us how to do that and really enforced us to use it. teachers would literally fail you if you didnt. what you do is use the mla guidelines to cite your sources, you could go to their site just search google for mla format or mla works cited and look at how they do it they have samples so just replace the names and dates with the sources you used
