It is difficult to be simple.... yes,
but, it is not simple to be difficult .....
it is...
Easy to be difficult. (We have made life so complex and difficult , and that too so easily ! We are the only living species that has to now "earn" for food ! Quite a difficult thing, but easy to create this difficulty !)
"Simple" is not easy always !

Yes i think 4 most, it is difficult 2 b simple and b who u are, everyone is searchng for somthng without findng it and in the process being difficult....
But the truth is it is not really simple 4 a simple person 2 b difficult because wen they are simple, they are themselves and within conscious thought they have 2 make the right choice 2 b who they are (be happy with self and simple) or 2 b difficult and....nt true 2 themselves.
it might alll depend on wat u view as simple and difficult...

For some people, yes lol. Think really really smart teachers that just can't teach well. I've had tons like that. Being difficult comes naturally to them because they don't know they're being that difficult (ideas/concepts seem simple to them), but when they try to put something complicated into simple terms, they just can't do it. Like if Albert Einstein (if he were alive) tried to teach 4th grade math, it just wouldn't work out well.

True. It is simple to be inconsistent and misunderstood.
Inconsistency can be either consistent or inconsistent
within an interval which means that it is simple.
It is more difficult to be well-thought and understood.
As the interval of consistency increases the sustenance
more likely becomes more difficult for any growing body
of knowledge. Fortunately, the strain of consistency can
be alleviated by contemplation and refinement/consolidation
of knowledge.

It's simply the nature of ego - want to be difficult so other people may look you up. It's difficult to realize the natire of the ego first time, but it get easier and easier. I'll repraise your question as it is easy to be difficult, but it is difficult to be simple at first place, yet as you try it get easier to be simple.
(Oops! I made it difficult!!) :-) Love~

Getting some sort of power, money, name or fame, most of us feel proud and disregard others. But to keep maintaining the simplicity throughout the life is truely difficult. It only can be done when we truely believe that we all are of same status as "Human being". The live example of our beloved president Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam proves his simplicity as he desired to teach in Anna University after his retirement from Presidential Post. He wished to stay in the same one room guest house where he was staying before coming to the Royal palace of President's Bhawan. Though it is difficult to be simple, it is not IMPOSSIBLE.

" What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us".- Oliver Wendell Holmes.
I dont know how much this suits ur question..but I felt like quoting these..
I dont think its simple to be difficult. Because once you have termed it difficult then some complexity should exist in it.
and I also dont think its difficult to be simple..you see in that case you'll just have to be yourself and thats not difficult atall..
may be its kindoff contradicting your question..but this is what I had to answer..

In both cases, one’s ego plays a vital role. Simple to be difficult …. A case of inflated and conceited ego. While the later involves controlling one’s ego emotions , practicing self discipline, mind control and following one’s conscience. . a path of righteousness.

Sir,
That is the Law of the Nature.
It is easy to break and difficult to make.

Simplicity requires making ....so it is difficult.

In Spirutual science our material science equations will not work as they are relative.Unless we transcend all these things including our intellect and logic ,then only the the TRUTH is realised. It is beyond all these things.
