We have recently moved into our first home. There are hundreds of little little tiny flies around our front door. Around our back door and in our backyard we have the big house flies everywhere. There are a few beetles around also. But I am so frustrated with stupid bugs! We have an exterminator come, but they don't do the outside. Does anyone know of good products to buy to get rid of them? Or any other effective methods? PLEASE HELP ME KILL THE STUPID BUGS! :)

Well, if you want to go with a natural solution...plant some mint. Spearmint or peppermint. Most bugs don't like the scent and tend to stay away from it. But, you need to find out what they're attracted to also. See if there is something rotten around the house. Perhaps food laying around outside?! You could always get some insect repellant...or some Raid.

You can put a bug zapper near your front door and on your patio/porch. It will at least control those bugs that are hovering near the entry and keep them out of the house. The zappers are electric and emit a light that attracts bugs - I think they are most useful for mosquitoes though. Fly strips also work for flies - they stick to them - but then you have unsightly strips of sticky paper covered with dead bugs. You could just opt for good screen doors on both front and back doors. There may be something in your yard that is attracting the flies - like animal manure or fruit trees that have not been maintained?
Birds, spiders & bats are all good natural insect controllers.

First you need to find out why the flies are hanging around your house, is their a water or sewer leak ? I would use the fly strips just outside both my front and back doors to keep the flying ones out, then I would buy some Diazon from Lowe's and sprinkle it around the foundation of the house to keep the crawl ones out.

BUGS are a fact of life and our environment. I'm guessing that you moved out of a city environment into something a bit more suburban. As a real estate broker, I hear this sort of complaint regularly.

If you move into a more suburban environment, 'bugs' have more places to reproduce and annoy you with their existence.
All you can do with these pests is to try to eliminate as well as possible. Don't count on any efforts as being permanent. You will continue to be annoyed by them as they reproduce and go through their life cycles.
