What year? It is definitely possible as a couple friends have done it under $3000 for everything, but installation (save money and learn how to work on your own car). since you say an SMG swap I assume it is an E46, I haven't heard of anyone doing a SMG swap as most people swap because they want a manual to hold more power and a SMG can't yet.

Yes, it is possible, but not financially feasible. You are better off selling the car and buying another used 325ci with a manual shifter. It will be expensive, in the $5,000 range. That's probably 1/3 of the price of an equivalent 325ci.

In the US at least, it is very hard to buy a used SMG transmission simply because it is very rare.

tranny swap is simply not worth it, as someone said, you will be better off just changing cars, you can try finding one at the dealer to trade or just sell it privately and buy another one. Try e46fanatics.com and bimmerforums.com for info on cars for sale and prices and stuff. And to comment on the guy that said that his friends bought them for like 3000 and put them in themselves. Well let me just say a tranny swap isn't that easy and if you don't work on your car then this really shouldn't be your first DIY projects, it's too complicated and you don't want to do it bad, because it'll never work properly and you'll end up buying another and having it done professionaly.
