There are many many websites that give good instructions on how to knit.

The Craft Yarn Council of America has a great basic site appropriately named "Learn to Knit"

One of the ones that I find most helpful for new knitters is the following, which has a bunch of videos showing you the various stitches and techniques. The best part is that it's Free!

Good luck & have fun!

The best website out there for 'comprehensive' videos on learning to knit is www.knittinghelp.com. There are videos on nearly all specific techniques, as well as videos of small projects at 'critical' stages so that you can work on putting all the techniques together so you are not stuck making scarves for years!! I've been knitting for over 6 years and I use the site as a reference on techniques I don't use very often when they come up in a new pattern I'm working on.

You should also check out the world of knitting blogs for inspiration on things to work on. It's awesome to see what other people are working on and how things turn out!!

Good Luck!

socks, mittens, slippers, simple sweater, blocks for quilt or blanket. I use a crochet hook to join pieces together, a simple chain line for line. randomly would look messy. I will put a piece of colored yarn every 10 or 20 rows so when I am done I can match the side together properly. just pull out the waste yarn markers when I am done.
