I read a article where a farmer and saw photos of this farmer in I believe idaho, he was squashing potatoes with his tractor to keep them from going to market so they could raise the price of potatoes, and now the price of potatoes are double of what they were before the conglamorates organized the farmers and had them to hold their product from the market so the price could be raised, " farmers are not subject to the price fixing statue" so if they want to play this game so why don't the American public demand " no subsidies"?

I have been a farmer all of my life and I have never asked for a subsidy, but I do think we should help support the small family farm if they have problems with the weather for example as they are the only insurance we have against the big conglamorates from litterlly robbing us,

In a way, this is a great example of how government assistance to deal with a present problem becomes, in the future, an entitlement, long after the problem that spawned the solution is gone. Are farm subsidies still necessary <-- one question, and Is the current farm subsidy program working for the good of all concerned? <--another question...

...and neither question can be honestly and truthfully examined because the political uproar that ensues at the hint of a program being "cut" and the commitments of those whose pockets are filled by lobbyists will prevent it from happening.

Your right, its appalling to see and hear what a farmer can profit by not even planting. I don't think most people are even aware of what goes on with the subsidies. I was shocked to learn about it and quite frankly the farmer's that play this game should be ashamed. Talk about welfare...its in the same category.

I really do not understand why Americans are not outraged about the insanely wasteful and useless farm subsidies that we give our farmers today. The end result is only double priced inferior products that sabotage our free trade talks with other nations.

I agree with you also effects milk you know how much milk is dumbed a day because of this it is awful we need to do something about it and stop taking in so much food and drink from forian countries would also help it is not because the farmers want to raise the price it is the government telling them to destroy it and they pay them not to grow and pay the milk farmers not to provide milk go figure

Because family farms are "America."

So was rampant polio, poison food, and buying morphine at the local store. Things change.

Every time you see one of those, "Help the starving in Africa" shows...remember that our "fine examples of America" throw away enough food and dairy to FEED THEM ALL.

No subsidies. A corporation doesn't need one. Neither does a family farm if they are going to destroy half their crop.
