Wow, this is really tough! can you tell us why you have to choose? How come you can't get the raise or education while married? I finished my education while I was married, so did my parents, sister , and many other family members... it's difficult but it sure can happen.

LF has an excellent answer. Unfortunately, I chose my marriage over my education. My ex made me quit school after getting married, and when the marriage ended, I still did not have the education. I would be so much better off now if I had finished. Your spouse should not be allowed to make the decision about your education. If it's a good marriage, your spouse would realize that finishing the education benefits both of you.

Marriage is more important. I take seriously the pledge of " 'til death do us part". I wouldn't like the kind of person I would be if I exchanged my spouse for money or further education. With a supportive spouse, I can have good education, a better job and someone I love to grow old with.

First off you should not have to make that decision unless the marriage is not stable to begin with. Is the marriage going to suffer terribly as in moving without your husband or traveling constantly? If there was no kids that were involved I might just pick the job. Why because he should be supporting your dream unless of course it's an unreasonable job.

If you have a good marriage, you would not have to make this type of decision.
A husband that holds the wife back is not a husband that stands by his wife and supports her. I would actually have issues if I had a husband that did not support my education and promotions. The education will stay with a person for a life time, the husband, there is a chance he will not be around for a life time..... People should not have to make this type of decision....

Salary. If my husband was willing to leave me over me getting an education and a better job, he would probably leave over something else sometime in the future. At least with the education and income, I would be able to take care of me and the kids.

It's not a good sign that you asking strangers instead of talking to your mate. A good marriage will allow the partners to work it out and come to a compromise.
