there are a few places to buy good long block. first have you called any of the local engine re-builders (machine shops)around your area have you tried the Chevrolet dealership? when pricing new engines try dealers in the southern part of the US (MS,AL,AR,LA) they sell cheaper parts for some reason you might be able to have one shipped to you and still come out ahead ....www.salle-chevrolet.com www.autozone.com www.jegs.com www.psengines.com www.dart.com

A quality rebuilt engine with a warranty is a Jasper engine. I suppose you know that a long block is the heads attached to the engine block with a new oil pump and the inner stuff included. It will include new cam bearings, main and rod bearings, it should have a new camshaft, lifters, pistons, rings, etc..
You'll have to take the intake manifold, timing cover, oil pan, and valve covers and brackets and accessories off the old motor and install then on the new long block. Some rebuilds come complete and you just drop them in with little swaping over of parts.
You need to prime the engine with one of those oil pump extensions that fit your 3/8-1/2" drill once you have all of the stuff in place.
I'm sure that you could find a long block and shop that will do the whole project for two grand or less if you don't do it yourself. The dealerships charge around three grand but this is high since they expect possible returns to make adjustments or warranty work.
Good Luck!

hi, a short block is the comparable as a protracted block,it in simple terms does not comprise the heads. in case you have a knock in the engine its often from a rod bearing or a crank bearing long gone undesirable, meaning you will desire to rebuild the decrease end of the engine(replace the quick block), yet maximum mechanics refuse to do in ordinary terms a decrease end because of the fact its lots much less demanding to swap the entire engine extremely than to would desire to take the heads off the previous block and placed them returned on the hot short block, and greater inexpensive too in case you talk approximately the fee of redoing the previous heads and changing each and every of the gaskets. Your acceptable wager is to discover a fabulous used engine, one which you will hear run first, or take the acceptable course and order a clean long block from a fabulous company. wish that facilitates.

I am a mechanic at a Dodge dealership, I think you should be able to find one at a reputable junk yard (or whetever PC name they give them now). Many will give warranties with a used engine and if you are installing it yourself, there shouldn't be that much difference to swap parts over.
I'd get out the phone book and call around.
You might also check around for local engine rebuilders. Sometimes they can be rebuilt cheaper than replacing.

I recommend PAW (performance automotive warehouse) their prices are really good. You could also rebuild it for not too bad. The 4.3 is just a 350 minus 2 slugs. (aka parts are cheap) the only unique part of the rotating assembly would be the crankshaft, the rods and pistons should be The same.
Hope this helps

Scoggins Dickey Performance center. They sell all types of engines (short, long, small block, big block, turnkey). I bought one from them 3 yrs ago. I had it shipped to GA from TX cheaper than I could buy it in GA
