back in th 1880's thru the early part of the 20th century they were all inside the park home runs. if they ever left the yard and they rarley did they had to be hit a ton. the old softer leather balls were much less likely to even reach the fences in those days and ball parks were much bigger i mean much. the used to set the diamonds in places like polo grounds so the likelyhood of leavin the yard was practly impossible. im thinkin the first one to leave the yard in the "modern era was in 1894 when a new ball was introduced that was harder and more lively and thats when a lot of the older ball parks put up reachable fences.

Back when baseball originally started, there were no outfield walls. So whoever hit the first home run. Kind of a difficult question, it goes back 130 years when they did not keep good track of things.
