I have incredibly irregular periods. sometimes they come twice a month, sometimes they don't come at all one month. Sometimes they are 3 days long, sometimes they are 2 weeks. Problem is, I'm afraid that she will think i'm having sex. I'm not, and i'm not planning on it any time soon, but i'm still scared. What should I do?

talk to your doctor, not your mom. if the doctor thinks you need birth control to regulate your periods, then he can tell your mom.

That is a hard topic to bring up. Next time you're having a rough period tell her how miserable your body is making you. You can say that a girl you know got on the pill to regulate her periods and you would like to try it. Or you can tell her that you wanna go to the doctor and see if anything can be done so you're not having so much trouble. Good luck!

Have frank discussion with her and tell her it really disturbes you that your periods come and go and it would be nice for once to know when its coming and have some control over it. I was the same when I went on the pill and I complained for months to my mum and until she said "Gosh go to the doctor and get something for it instead of complaining".
Be open with your mum and tell her you are not interested in sex yet and that it is purely for period reasons and tell her you are worried that she thinks its for sex. Best thing is to honest and tell her you are worried what she thinks.

if i were you i would just tell your mom how irregular your periods are and ask her if she can make an appointment with a gynecologist to make sure nothing is wrong. you can mention going on birth control to ur mom, or not, but chances are your doctor will put your right on birth control when you tell her/him about your periods. explain to your mom that you understand how you being on birth control might worry her about you having sex but that she has nothing to worry about. keep open communication with her and she should be able to trust you to make smart choices.

haha hun don't worry about the sex thing.
she will understand you aren't having sex.
if she knows anything about your unregular periods then just talk about it to her and be like mom im tired of my period always being unexpected and i read online about birth control helping. do you think i could get this?
and also, you have to be a certain age for birth control pills so look up on that.
and if you have had your period for less than a year or two then your periods will be irregular for a bit until you grow and your body gets used to ovulating.

It's normal for teens to have irregular periods. Wait until you're 18 when they have settled down. If you're still irregular, then go on the pill.

tell her you would like to go to the doctor for an annual physical and then the doctor will ask you about your periods and you can tell the doctor then the doctor decides about what to do and tells your mom
maybe you can use the excuse that you may need to update your shots for school or need a physical for sports or just because you are growing and changing and have some questions and are anxious about things that happen as you grow into a teen

Just go ahead and talk to her. Esp. if a doctor has recommended that to you have her talk to them about it. Just be totally honest. I had to do the same thing when I was about 16 to regulate periods. Good Luck.

depending on your relationship with your mom you should just be able to tell her. let her know what's been going on with your menstrual cycle. if you went to the doctor already you can tell her what they said. if not...bring her with you when you go... that way she's hearing it from a professional and doesn't make any assumptions as to why you want to take birth control.

Just explain to your mom that you're afraid of what's going on, and sit her down and really talk to her about it. If she has no reason to not trust you, having a nice long talk about your reasons for wanting to do this might do the trick
