Fate you can change destiny you can't.

Fate and/or destiny is almost the same as saying that no one has free will, and God purposefully gave us free will to make decisions. We make bad decisions, we make good decisions, and based on those decisions, things happen.

However. . . God also has a free will, and He can orchestrate things in our lives that we freakin' HATE that turn out really well for us.

Case in point. I had three job offers on the table. One paid $45k and my office was facing the Santa Monica beach. The second paid $50k and my office was facing the Santa Monica mountains. Both were within two blocks of the 3rd Street Promenade. Excellent, excellent job opportunities. Through a series of mishaps, I was backed into, forced, whatever you want to call it, into accepting the job that only paid $32k, in downtown L.A., and I ABSOLUTELY did not want that job.

My sister, SmartA--, told me, Shut up, Becky, you could go there and meet your husband tomorrow. Boy, that is NOT what I wanted to hear. But I recognised that what my mom said was right. God was closing these other two doors and leading me to this third door that I just was very, VERY unhappy about.

I 'accepted' that this was likely God's will pushing me into this 'bad situation.' The next day I started this awful job that I didn't want. I started at 9:00 a.m. At 10:00 this dude walks in the door. By 6:00 p.m. we were engaged, and we were married two months later.

We've been married eight years now and have three kids.

Free will being a God given thing, that does not stop bad things from happening to us, even when we make a good decision. Other people still have a free will to do as they please, and their decisions can negatively affect our otherwise good decisions. But God does promise that what man meant for harm, He meant for good. He can definitely -- and has -- turned really bad situations into blessings that, if you look back in life and look at those situations, if you're wise, you can see the blessing in it.

Fate? Destiny? To believe in this is to say that God gives us no choice at all, and we already know that He gives us choice. Look how many people choose not to believe.

The law of cause and effect is known in philosophical
texts also. There is a very specific law in science.
"For every action, there is an equal and oppisite
reaction". If you write it in English, it becomes
Newton's Law. If you write it in Sanskrit, it becomes
Law of Karma.

Your Karma governs the destinity. That does not mean that you do not
have freedom and all your actions, like you slap back when some one
slaps you, is all written in destiniy. That reduces humans to mere pre-programmed
robots. The Almighty did not create humans that way. Humans are the highest of
creation. A soul goes through many births like trees and animals and gains
Punyam to attain human birth. This Punayam plus the phisical and mental
labour you put in gives you freedom in this birth. As you sow as you reap is
the norm for labour. But the soil you have inhertited is by fate.

I am quoting the experience of Mr. Eclectic:

"Several years ago I suffered from an attack of tennis elbow so intense that I couldn't even hold a pencil (forget trying to use it). As an artist and writer, this could have caused me a lot of mental anguish since I could not do the two things which are most important to me. Instead, I tried composing into a tape recorder instead of doing it longhand (which is still, BTW, my preferred method). And I tried drawing left-handed. I was very satisfied with both alternatives".

I believe in fate. There have to be some rules organizing our lives. On the other hand, i also believe that rules are meant to be broken, and that, in a way, we can govern our fates.

Yes, I believe in both.

Fate is that which we have no control over, those things that occur that we have no choice but to endure. Examples include tornadoes, tsunami's, and earthquakes.

Destiny is that which we have control over, those things that occur that we can choose to do something about or not. Examples include falling in love, buying ice cream, and whether or not to wear heels tonight.
