Question 1
let width be w m
length = w + 4 m
2w + 2(w + 4) = 240
4w + 8 = 240
4w = 232
w = 58
l = 62
Question 2
Let Fred have $x
Dave has $6x
Bill has $3x
6x + 3x + x = 550
10 x = 550
x = 55
Fred has $55
Dave has $330
Bill has $165

Perimeter is the total length of the boundary.
Let L be length and W as width.
So, in your rectangle,
2L+2W = 240 (since you need to add the length and width twice for a perimeter)
2(L + W) = 240
L + W = 120 --- a
Also, L = 4+W ---- b
Substitute b in a
4+W +W = 120
2W = 116
W = 58
Therefore, L = 58+ 4 = 62 m
------
Money Dave has = 6 * Money Fred has.
d=6f ----a
Money Bill has = 3 * Money Fred has
b = 3f -----b
b+d+f = 550 ----c
Substitute a and b in to c
6f + 3f + f = 550
10 f = 550
f = 55
hence Money f has = 55 $
d= 6f = 6*55 = 330 $ is what Dave has
b = 3f = 3*55 = 165$ is what Bill has

1. p=2l + 2w, right? and you know that l=4+w. So plug in what you know to get an equation in terms of w: 240= 2(4+w)+2w. Then distribute and combine like terms in the second part of the equation to get 240= 8+ 4w. Subtract 8 from both sides to get 232=4w. Divide each side by 4 to get w=58. Now that you know the width, you can use it to get the length, which you know from the beginning is 4+w. That makes l=62.
2. Use what you know to compose two equations: d=6f, b=3f
Since together they have 550 dollars, and you know how many multiples of Fred's amount of money Dave's and Bill's are equivalent to, you can get the equation 6f(dave)+3f(bill)+1f(fred)=550. Then combine your f's to get 10f=550. Divide both sides by 10 to get f=55, aka Fred has 55 dollars. Since you know how much Fred has now, multiply it by the number of Fred's money Dave and Bill are to get how much they have. Dave=6f=330. Bill=3f=165. To check your work, add all three men's money together and it equals 550. You know you did it right.
Hope I helped! =)

1)
perimeter = 2L + 2W
W = L - 4
Perimeter = 2L + 2(L-4)
= 4L - 8
L = 240 meter
Therefore, P = 4(240) -8
P = 952 meters
2) Let x =Fred's money
y = Dave's money
z = Bill's money
y = 6x
z =3x
x+y+z =550
x+6x+3x = 550
10x = 550
x = 55 , Fred's money
y = 6(55) = 330, Dave's money
z =3(55) = 165, Bill's money

1. I'll give you the equation for it but you will have to do the work since im thinking that this is a hw assignment..
2(l) + 2(l - 4) = 240 l=length
and incase you don't know the () means multiplication and you would have to distribute the 2(l - 4)
when you find out what the length is, subtract it by 4 and you got your width..enjoy! hint..they both are above 50
2. 6(F) + 3(F) + F = 550 or 10F = 550 F=Fred
when you get what F is, multiply by 6 to get Dave's, and then multiply F by 3 to get Bill's.
enjoy..

Help on the second question: Fred = x, Dave = 6x, Bill = 3x . The equarion is Fred + Dave + Bill = 550. Therefore, x + 6x + 3x = 550. 10x = 550, so x=55(Fred) 6x=330(Dave), and 3x=165(Bill). 55+330+165=550.

perimeter is 240m and equals 2 L plus 2 W
2L+2W=240 divide by 2 L+W=120
and L=W+4
You can substitute the second into the first
(W+4)+W=120
2W+4=120
2W=116
W=58
That makes L=62
checking the math
2(62)+2(58)=240 it checks out
d=Dave
f=Fred
b=Bill
d=6f
b=3f
and d+f+b=550 substituting the first two into the third
6f+3f+f=550
10f=550
f=55
that makes
d=330
b=165
checking
330+165+55=550 it checks out

1. 2(W+W+4) = 240, W = 58 m, L = W + 4 = 62 m
2. d = 6f, b = 3f, d+b+f = 10f = 550; f = $55, d = $330, b = $165

Perimeter is 2*L + 2*W
But in this case L = W + 4 so perimeter is 2*L + 2*(L+4)
240 = 4L + 8
Let Fred's amount be X
550 = X + 3X + 6X
Once you know Fred's amount just figure the others

p = 240
w
l = w + 4
p = 2w + 2l
240 = 2w + 2(w+4)
240 = 2w + 2w + 8
240 = 4w + 8
4w = 240 - 8
4w = 232
w = 232/4
w = 58
l = w + 4
l = 62
===============
let x = fred's money
6x = dave's
3x = bill's
550 = x + 6x + 3x
550 = 10x
x = $55 fred's money
6x = $330 dave's money
3x = $165 bill's money
