I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and it's not uncommon to have humidity levels in the single digits during the early summer. However, is it possible to have the humidity level drop to zero? Would this be harmful/deadly to humans and/or animals?

Zero humidity is technically not possible, as there will always be some free water molecules in the air. They can, however, drop to near-zero values, but this is not very harmful, except for tending to cause chapped lips and cracked skin.

If there is any humid air in the vacinity for winds to blow into Phoenix, or if there is moisture on or near the ground surface to evaporate, there will be a humidity level above zero. If that ever occurred, it seems there would be a super drought. But anything is possible.

There is always moisture in the air. On very hot days in desert areas, the relative humidity will be very low during the afternoon but will rise considerably overnight as the temperature falls. There need be no change in the amount of water vapour in the air for this to happen. Temperature is part of the calculation for relative humidity and as the temperature rises, the humidity falls - and vice versa.

Er ... I would desire to trust Debratna; it particularly is impossible to have 0 relative humidity close to the floor, in the international. In a wasteland it ought to be perhaps as low as 20 % yet I doubt this is much less. in spite of everything, if warm temperature feels greater soft in a dry relative humidity climate it particularly is via fact then your physique can quiet down your dermis much less complicated by ability of sweating. yet then ... you're today loosing physique fluid and you threat dehydration! What occurs is that, whilst water evaporates, it needs capability in form of warmth and the technique cools down your dermis. The drier the air, the greater evaporation occurs. in case you're as an occasion interior the fog (a hundred pc relative humidity) you may sweat yet your dermis is only not chilly via fact no water can evaporate; you're at what's called dew element temperature; the air can not sustain greater water molecules with out condensing into droplets.

I guess it is possible to have no moisture in the air but I think it would be unlikely. Whenever you are dealing with hot/ low humidity situations, you will dehydrate faster so drink plenty of fluids.
