You seem to be laboring under a false impression - religion is not the root of all evil. There has been much evil not associated with religion. But there has also been much that has been associated with religion.
That is because we are all people. People are not perfect. Some people are evil. If people are true to their religion, any major religion, they will not do evil. But many people pervert religion to suit their own purposes. This has happened in all religions that I know of. But it is the people who are evil, not the religion.

I don't know of any religion that has sprouted legs, got up, and went out and killed, raped oppressed, lied and used God's name to do it in. I know of people who have done that, but I don't know of any religion that has done that.
I don't think a religion in of itself can be evil. I think people and entities can be evil, but I don't think a religion by itself can be evil.
The bible says there will be false TEACHERS (people). The bible never says there will be false religions. So your question is void.

Hello,
The Crusades and the religious wars in the 16th and 17th centuries were fought in the name of religion. That is a few but what of all the others from the Alexander (250 BC); Roman Invasion of Britain (55 BC) through to WWI, WWII and conflicts in the cold war? - Land and power. Without religion things could have been much worse. For many followers religion has caged that beast inside.
By the way it teaches that you are not allowed to kill, steal, shag your friend's wife's or covet his goods since not only such actions offend your God but cause violence in the first place. The guides are there but many choose not to listen. You can't blame religion or any instruction manual for that matter if you don't follow them correctly.

The only true religions in the Bible are Judism (old testement) and Christianity (new testement) when Jesus died, Judism was no longer a true religion. I can agree that many wars have been religious. Those wars were because of a bunch of stupid hypocrites trying to take over the world. I'm not proud of what they've done. But I'm very proud to call myself a Christian. I'm still young, and I do have my moments of hypocrisy, but that's part of being human.

Religion doesn't kill people. People who are already inherantly hateful and ignorant USE religion as a justification for their actions. They pick and choose what passages of scripture to believe and then translate it for their own purposes. Religion, when followed properly, actually brings out the good in people. If you look at ALL of the major religions, they have a moral code that teach LOVE, kindess towards our fellow man, etc.

Science, done honestly, gives us an undestanding of the physical world around us - science answers the question "how". Religion, done properly, gives us an understanding of the spiritual world around us - religion answers the question "why".
What your question describes is people who are not following religion, but rather those who use false religion to confuse their fellow human beings who have not been properly educated in religious thought. All true religions lead to God, which is the only source of peace in human experience.
We see the same thing when people use science falsely to confuse their fellow human beings who have not been properly educated in scientific thought. False science gives us evolution, global warming, and the like. Although both of these have been disproven as scientific ideas and abandoned by scientists, they continue to be used as tools to get people to accept certain political positions.
Done honestly, science, religion, politics, art are all good things that improve human life. Done dishonestly, they all contribute to human misery. They cease to be what they were and they become just lies - nothing else. Your question shows you have no understanding/experience of religion - that you have only experienced dishonesty. You cannot judge the positive power of God's love if all you've seen is the enemy's lies. I would you suggest you begin your search for Truth by reading the Book of John in the Bible.
Jesus answered your second question. In His own words "You can judge a tree by it's fruit". My understanding of His words; If a religion produces Truth, love for God, forgiveness, a concern for your fellow man, and good works it is true. If it does not, it is false.
The search for scientific knowledge or religious Truth both begin by asking questions. You've asked a good one. Good luck to you on your search.

I don't follow a religion, but I do believe in God. Two different things entirely. Religion is a man-made entity, and as such, is prone to all of the imperfects or man.

People kill, not the religions. They use their religion as an excuse to kill, rape, and pillage. Example: Native Americans were nearly wiped out because they did not follow the christian faith and were considered heathens and animals.
Anytime a belief system differs from another their will always be resentment. One of the reasons why I refuse to go to church. Baptists think they are better than mormons, mormons better than catholics, catholics better than jehova's witnesses and so on.
Their are two sets of rules in churches. God's rules and church rules. I have no intentions of following church rules handed down by anyone.
When you do not belief the same as someone else you are considered trash, infidel, or an outcast.
