I stepped on something outside about 2 wks ago, and it hasn't hurt, just been irritating. It's on the outside of my foot where the skin is thick and I can't see. My husband can see a splinter or piece of wood but he can't tweeze it. I have three choices: Should I let it fester so it'll come to the top? Should I let my husband use a sterile needle to go fish for it? Or do I have to go see the dr:(?

Before you "tweeze" it again, you might try soaking it in warm water with a little liquid soap for awhile. It will soften the skin and help clean the area. Try pouring some hydrogen peroxide on it and it will bubble. That will also soften it up. Then have him try again but with a needle, that has been doused in alcohol, to help shift its position so he can grab it with your tweeze. I that doesn't work keep up with the foot soaks and call your doctor.

I say sterilize your foot and the needle, then try digging it out. Maybe soak your foot in some warm salty water causing the skin to open and soften. Might make it easier to get out.

Also, hydrogen proxide and soaps break down organic matter and these things might help soften the splinter until it goes away.

DO NOT SEE A DR.!!!!! It's a waste of money to see a doctor for something like that. You could let your husband fish it out if you are not low on the pain tolerance scale. If it doesn't hurt, I would let your body push it out. If it is driving you pull-your-hair-out-crazy, then let your husband push it out. Otherwise, let your body do the work. That's one of the things it's designed for.

try soaking your foot in hot water to loosen it up. there are also some creams you can use that can draw out the sliver. i wouldnt recommend your husband using a needle if he doesnt know what hes doing. you dont want to further irritate the skin. if the hot water and cream dont work, go to the doctor
