Tell me what we should do about terrorists?

I'm guessing they'd want to gather all the terrorists together and give them counseling (at taxpayers expense of course) and they would call the terrorists victims and would want to study them to know why they are so mean to us. They would most likely come to the conclusion that the terrorists were traumatized as youth because everything didn't go their way.
Then I'm guessing out of compassion they would hand them food stamps and welfare (at taxpayers expense of course) and tell them to be good little boys and girls (remember, only positive reinforcement) and then more therapy and send them on their way . Then, when the terrorists murder more children and innocent people , they would blame the failure of their program on a republican and declare that if only they could throw more money (at taxpayers expense of course) at the problem it would go away but the evil republicans won't let them.

I'm not a liberal when it comes to defense, and I'm old enough to know I'm nowhere near having all the answers. But here's what I think.

I think that once we have restored our damaged relationships with our Allies, we need to form a world wide Allied coalition, which would include dedicated intelligence and dedicated troops from each country. We should find a way to meld our intelligence on terrorism without one agency trying to trump another - in other words, actual REAL cooperation. The Intelligence section's purpose would be to travel all over the relevant areas of the world where terrorists have gained footholds, use wiretapping, whatever they use to do their thing. Once identified the Coalition Troops could then do their thing. If there is a terrorist attack, such as the ones that have happened in London, then an already specified team of specialists from this Coalition would respond immediately to root out and identify the terrorists, which cell they belong to, etc.

I think this is the only way that the civilized people of the world will be able to begin to conquer terrorism. I don't think we'll ever be able to completely stamp it out. They breed too quickly in politically unstable countries. But it might be an effective way for all Allied countries to deal with terrorism, from a truly concerted effort. If the Allies hadn't come together to defeat Hitler we might all be speaking German right now. I think this problem has become at least that serious and it will require the same sort of cooperation between us that become necessary to our survival during
WW II.

1) We shouldn't have bombed their people in the first place, killing just makes people even more vengeful.
2) We should stop secret CIA covert operations to overthrow leaders trying to help their people that are not giving in to US imperialism
3) Stop threats to all countries that say NO to the US' wants
4) Stop our corporations from ruining other countries land
5) Maybe try to understand why the terrorists are attacking us, then we might be able to change things so they don't feel like they need violence to make people aware of an issue that they would have otherwise used violence to show the world. Retaliation does nothing to change a situation for the better, so why do we use it?

I don't know if this is a liberal view since the dems seem to not be doing ANYTHING USEFUL!!! This is probably just my view and you don't have to agree with me, but its just something to think about.~Peace

First off, you give me your definition of a terrorist. Most of the so called terrorists that implemented 9/11 were Saudi's and most of the foreigners fighting against us in Iraq are Saudis. So why are we killing Iraqi's? Shouldn't we be fighting Osama bin Laden and his merry band of murderers right in Saudi Arabia where the original terrorists came from. I can tell you that is never going to happen as long as Bush is in office, he owes them for bankrolling his first run at the presidency and we all know how loyal he is with his friends, no matter what it costs our country.

Conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, Jew or Gentile or Muslim, politician, a soldier or a civilian - nobody can stop a terrorist. Nobody. War isn't going to stop terrorists. Redeployment isn't going to stop the terrorists. We live in one of the most civilized countries in the world, we can't even stop an abusive husband or wife from terrorizing and killing their partner.

All we can do is maintain strength from within: Secure our borders, ensure domestic tranquility, remain hopeful rather than fearful, enact effective safety measures in public places. As when the human body is infected with disease, we have no cure, but we can make ourselves more difficult to kill.

First, we should do what Bush should have done on 9/12...CLOSE OUR BORDERS!!! What is he waiting for?

Second, we should stay focused on our goal. We went into Afghanistan after al Qaeda and then got distracted with Iraq. The result is that al Qaeda is as strong or stronger than since 9/11.

Most of all, we need to begin a more isolationist policy and let the world take care of itself for a while. Bring our troops home from around the world and protect America first.

I don't have all the answers---I just have a lot of questions.

But, in answer to your question about terrorists: #1) I would be vigilant in keeping up GOOD intelligence sources and crime fighting techniques in this country. #2) I would try to stop being so darn arrogant in the world, so that fewer people would have reason to hate the US. #3) I would certainly try to use some diplomacy. #4) I might just come out and ask them what their problem is.

edit: Sky and Cory (among others) nailed it!!!! How come the cons had no answers other than name-calling?

the enemies want to win the war more than the democrats do. they just sit around and wait for them to be foolish, like their little slumber party the other night. that confirmed it! the terrorists no know for CERTAIN SURE that they are on their side.

I think we should continue to do what we just did in Somalia. Build a strong coalition; regain the trust of our partners; gather reliable intelligence and then either use law enforcement or C-130 gunships to destroy the terrorist organizations.

Also, get control of our open borders and get the INS to actually working.
