I was away for a weekend and my younger brother installed lots and lots of free games from the internet. We got spyware. I went through my hard drive and deleted all files and programs he installed. My browser was and is still very slow. I then ran spybot search and destroy AND kaspersky anti-virus but both showed nothing wrong. I checked my processes and found lots of new process that were never there before such as StarWindService, mDNSRResponder, mim and a few others. When I try to end these processes it says that access is denied. Any idea how to get things back to normal?

Couple of ways are there to get rid of this type of a problem.
1. If you can rolback to a know known image (Snapshot) of your hard disk. This solution only applies to some OS's and you should have an image to do this.
2. Look for all the unknown services on the internet, it has more details about the files it starts the service. So collect all the information and then start the machine in safe mode and delete all the collected files and restart in the normal mode.
3. There are couple of good spyware removers, even the one Microsoft give at free trial can remove a lot
4. If you know a little about the OS may log all the service related infomation so that you know which files are loaded to start that service. Bingo, delete all those files on safe mode.
5. Which is the ideal solution for windows is, back up the most wanted personel things, format the HD and reinstall the applications you want.

Cheers

Also to to start ....Run....open MS config to clean out any startup services that were added.
