You can use honey, but let me tell you that the silver sulfiazine is the best. It almost heals that wound overnight, fights infection and in this situation use that cream. I'm an herbalist and this stuff is the best of the best. There is nothing out there that can bet it. My daughter was severely burned at 15 months of age and I thank God to this day for that cream. I use to be the president for the Lady's auxiliary for the local fire dept and that stuff is a miracle in a jar. It cools the wound instantly and generates new skin growth literally overnight. It's not sticky either. Spend that $, honey will take longer and it's messy. Even as a herbalist, this is one case that the cream is better to opt.

I would say absolutely do NOT use honey. The thing with honey is that bacteria will not grow on it so it "never spoils". Depending on how the honey was harvested and packaged would also determine how sanitary the product is. Many many germs could be introduced via contaminates (such as dirt, hair, etc) that would be perfectly ok to eat but would be disastrous on a wound.

Take a good multivitamin with minerals, and a good antioxidant formula. Vitamin E oil will also help prevent scarring if applied daily and will promote healing. You may also want to take extra vitamin C since it helps form healthy connective tissue. Good luck.

I would be wary of honey. Honey can't be consumed by infants I think because it is contaminated with something. You might want to look up infants and honey to see what's wrong with honey. We use Burn-Jel Plus which costs $5.

I've never heard of functional medicine practitioners. We have doctors and nutritionists, but they are very different things, the former giving medical treatments the latter giving advice on diet.

Burns are serious, not only because of pain in the area of the burn itself, but also because of possible chemical changes in other parts of the body. Burns are among the most common household emergencies. Hot liquids, stoves, radiators, unguarded electric outlets, firecrackers, chemicals, irons, gasfires, and sunburn often burn young children. The greatest danger arises from the shock, which follows a deep burn involving a large area of the body.
The symptoms of a first-degree burn are pain, heat, redness and tender to the touch in the skin affected. These symptoms can appear from 1 to 24 hours after exposure to the sun.
The symptoms of a second-degree burn are extreme reddening, swelling; pain and even blisters can appear. The burn reaches the deeper layers of the skin where it damages the small blood vessels and elastic fibers in the skin, and later there is wrinkling of the skin. In most severe cases, chills, fever, nausea, and/or delirium may accompany the burn.
In severe burns the loss of body fluids can be very serious, particularly in a young child. The kidneys and adrenal glands may not function well, and other internal organs may be more affected. Even a small burn may produce a serious deformity if it occurs over a large joint, such as the knee. Deep burns often result in the formation of considerable scar tissue.
Severe burns involve the deeper layers of the skin and usually cause large blisters. Burns are always more serious when face, hands, feet or genital organs are involved.
Chemical burns are often serious, and may result in deep scars. Steam and dry heat burns should be treated as ant other severe burn.
