Become great at something you have a passion for. Spend time with friends. And most importantly, figure out why you don't hold yourself in high esteem. Chances are, you shouldn't feel inadequate, and you should re-evaluate the way you view yourself. You could proably make yourself feel a lot better simply by thinking about things differently, by involving yourself fully in life, and by talking and thinking about your feelings. Of course, if you deem your emotional state to be too serious to handle alone, you should see a psychiatrist. Hoep you feel better.

A self make over. New style clothes, hair style, shoes. That take care of the physical.
Walk tall with shoulders back.
All of this makes me more confident. But for a chronic problem, taking a speech class or joining club -Toastmasters
is a great way to get over lack of confidence / self-esteem.

Well, I think you have to dig deep and try to figure out what brought you to this point in your life. If you feel guilty about something, forgive yourself. If someone else tore you down, forgive them. There is no one on this Earth who is perfect, but neither are we imperfect. So love yourself, be yourself, put yourself first. You don't have to prove anything to anyone and don't go out of your way trying to "buy"/earn someone's respect or affection. Be polite, and kind, and respectful and live by the Golden Rule, but you don't have to take crap from anyone. If someone doesn't treat you with respect, move on.

Make an effort to help someone else without looking for a reward. Cheap but effective.
Enjoy the company of friends whose opinions you value & ask them what else they see you doing for a job/with your life.
Create something. Even if it doesn't have an immediate use or audience, you did it, & the process is liberating.
Come over for a beer.

Stop putting yourself down, avoid those who put you down. Write down everything positive about who you are.
Read that list and add to it daily.
Look in the mirror and smile, then say, What a wonderful person I am.
Hang around people who are positive.

Do something nice for someone less fortunate-- donate your time or items to a domestic violence center, or an animal shelter..... when you help another, you make yourself feel better in the process....

Keep telling yourself that you are smart, worthwhile, etc. every time that "little recording" in your head starts repeating all of your faults and every bad thing you are able to remember about yourself. We are our own worst critics!!

Do something nice for yourself. Celebrate any accomplishment that you make. Take pride in the good things you do. Thank you.
