In a way yes. The word emo came from the word emotional but emo is actually a genre of rock music that eventually had a whole lifestyle form around it. If emo was just short for emotional then we would all be emo because we're all emotional. If you really want to know what emo is ask one..they may not be happy about your question but you'll get a good answer.

it is not is not just a style and fad it is a way of live emo=love not all emos cut and want to die emos have just have had a hard life getting picked on, never wanted by family but instead of expressing there anger over that in fighting (as most americans do) they write poetry and create works of art and an emo relationship is they best kind u will ever find. and yes some "emo" ppl are posers and i hate them but they will find out sooner or later they will be caught. and yes most emos wear eyeliner and makeup but who ****** cares if they do or not any one who picks on someone for wearing eyeliner should really get out more offten and some emos are gay or bi but its there life they can be if they want just dont anyone hate emo for the steriotypes its all wrong

Actually if your referencing the emo scene, it originally stood for a type of music derived from its forbear, punk rok, and it stood for Emotional Hardcore music.
