I have a male doctor and he's awesome and as for your doctor being 64 that just means he has more years experience so you are actually pretty lucky and sense he's probably been a doctor for 30 years or so you shouldn't feel too uncomfortable about him being a male because he's seen plenty of females and if heaven forbid there was something perverse about him he probably wouldn't be a doctor anymore.

ok just remember doctors have to pass many, many test before becoming doctors and they must be trained in every up and coming issue. 64 is not that old. Just b/c he is a little on the elderly side doesn't mean anything, but if you are worried, you can ask for a different doctor. When I found out that I had a male doctor, I asked for a female. U have the right to choose.

I would rather have an older Dr then a younger one. Stop worrying. Do you feel genuinely comfortable with him? If you don't then you need to think about seeing someone else. You need to be comfortable with your dr or you might be apprehensive of letting him know about your symptoms or thoughts or feelings. You need to be comfortable with him. A women in not always better and I will tell you why they are not as sympathetic from what I can tell working in the OB. At least the men have not been through it and have more sympathy and apathy to your needs, wants and pain.

Well I guess there's ups and downs to that. You have a doctor that's been in the business for awhile and knows his stuff. On the other hand, he's been in the business awhile and may be stubborn in his old ways. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If he makes you super uncomfortable, just change him for someone that you're comfortable with.

I always preferred male doctors, female s doctors can tend to be bi***y. And at 65, just think of all the babies he has delivered. If you are really that uncomfortable, find another doctor, or request to see a female from the same office.
And if his last name is Bharat, it is Indian (India).

Bharat - son of Bharata, an Indian language name for India.
Men have been delivering babies for years, as have women.
64 years old means he has delivered a LOT of babies!
If you are really worried, research him through your state's medical board.
Do you not have a choice of doctors?

Well change doctors if your insurance will let you, my first obgyn was a female in her early 30s I would imagine but she was a smart @$$ and she treated me like I was completely stupid with every question I asked and stayed in the room for about five minutes.

My new doctor is a guy in his thirties I would say. He is awesome and we love him, age or sex of the doctor has nothing to do with how great they are. This guy might be good if you try him out. If it doesn't work out you can always change.

I would say he probably knows more about things than the young ones. They make them go to new lectures all the time and he'd still know all the old school stuff. I know you'd be more comfortable with a younger female doctor but this man will know his stuff I bet.

The doctor I had for my first pregnancy was a older (and I mean way older) man. He actually delivered my sister and I. He also was the head of the Maternity ward and his years made him wiser and more calm. I wouldn't want a 20 something kid delivering my child. The experience is good.

That's funny, I always pictured my doc being a 64-year-old man.
To me, it seems like an older doctor would have a lot of experience and has probably delivered hundreds of babies during their career.
