hmm i'm from the south, magnolia state, but you know... there's no need to call yourself a redneck, yeah they make music and such like, redneckwhatsherface up there said, about being a redneck, there's one thing being a southern belle and another being honky tonk white trash, and i do like gretchen and i understand some people feel that the term "redneck" is a good term... it really isn't, i prefer southern belle or country girl, many people have the misconception that just because you're from the south it means that you're uneducated and have no teeth and sleep with their cousins, but those are the people that don't know about the history and accomplishments that have occurred in the south... their loss, we're great people and our men still open doors for us, being from the south is great, i wouldnt change a thing...plus no northerner can resist a southerners charm

I'm also from the south - currently live in California. I used to run into people from the Midwest and northeast who heard the accent and immediately assumed I was as dumb as dirt. I've learned to lose the accent when necessary, but the drawl has definitely gotten me out of speeding tickets, caused competitors to tell me things they shouldn't because they thought I was too dumb to know what to do with the data and gotten me out of several other predicaments. No, I'm not dumb and never "play dumb", but if someone else is shallow enough to think that my accent means I'm dumb, I have no problem using it to take advantage. Call it payback.

Apparently, some people think so. My people have been in the Southeast for over 10,000 years, and it's always the recent folks who make the snotty comments. Eastern Band Cherokee people actually BELONG in the US, unlike some...

It's technically illegal for people to discriminate against you because you're Southern as well. If it's a boss or someone at work, you might want to remind them of that.

I have family down south and always found the accent charming. I don't even know what a southern girl would look like.

Whoever made that comment is just making the area they come from look bad. Being Southern can be a great thing. Southerners tend to be more kind, generous, polite, and respectful. Guess where I'm from? lol

I get sick of Northerners who move to my hometown and automatically assume that they are superior in every way to those of us born here in the South.

I am proud of my heritage. I am a college graduate and an honor society member, so I don't need validation by someone who is prejudiced against people from the South.

No doubt, there's a gaining resentment of the South in this country. After all, it's the only part of the country that continually shows population growth and guess what? They're coming from all over the country!

I have nothing against Southerners. I like their accent. Not too crazy about the rebel flag, though, because of what it represented. I like southern cooking. and the best peaches in the world come from Georgia. I hear they have some pretty good peanuts, too. And you gotta thank God for those pretty Southern belles.

We are all Americans. It doesn't matter what part of the country your from. I have lived in many states and traveled though 48 of them. I was born in Calif. and raised by southerners so I grew up loving southern cooking. My only objection is the rebel flag. The war is over, the union has been restored, and we should all wave the American flag.

I don't think anything bad about southerners. I'm from Iowa and we are always put down because we are so close to Missouri. I understand where you are coming from. People should learn that everyone is different it doesn't matter where they come from they are different too and can be picked out of a crowd just like everyone else.
