My question is about either getting a new computer or getting my old one fixed. I have a laptop. You see, my old one has a lot, I'm talking, a lot of virues on it, it was all because of some pop up that I accidently clicked on and it decided to download and add a bunch of crap to my computer that I didn't want. Plus, my screen is kind of broken. It wiggles, it only stays in one certain spot, it doesn't move like its supposed to. My computer has also become very slow lately too. My computer is three years old. It's not that old but it really sucks now. It's been dropped to many times too. Should I just get a new computer or use that money and fix it but would it be worth it? Also, for everyone who reads this watch out for a popup called WinAntiSpyware2007, funny isn't it, that an ANTI virus protection caused the virus. Just thought I would warn you. Any help would be great by the way.

These guys did a good job in telling you how to clean the scumware from your machine. Now you just need to fix the screen. If it is just wobbling then it is easily fixed. Look along the bottom of the screen and you should see some small plastic panels on each side. Take a small screw driver and gently pry up on the and it should expose the hinge area. There you will find anything from allen screws to philips screws. Take them out one by one and put a drop or two of Loc-tite thread locker on it and replace each one, one at a time. As you get to the end you will find the hinge has tightened and almost as good as new. Then come back and post a question on how to remove a bunch of unwanted programs that run in the taskbar that does nothing but bog the machine down... Or you could do a search for it on here and aviod the wait for a good answer...
Good luck... And get a case that you can hold onto instead of fumbling the machine around with...

Getting the viruses off of your laptop isn't any more expensive than a desktop. The screen issue may be rather expensive though.

To start getting rid of the virus issues:

1. Download and install Microsoft Defender. It's Free. It's Fast.
It's Simple to use.

See LINK in Source Section.

2. After you run a full scan with that download and install avast! Anti-Virus. It's also free. Link also in source section.

Wow, a 3-year old computer that you've dropped lots of times, and has massive infections. It'll cost you $$$ to fix it OR to get a new one. By the time you fix the screen and disinfect it, you could be looking at a few hundred dollars. You're looking at more to buy a new one, but probably it makes sense.

And since you've got the money to spend, try spending a little bit on some good security so you don't get these infections. Learning not to drop the computer is up to you.

From what I understand of your problem, the virus seems to causing all the performance problems with your PC. The physcial abuse that has occured is not helping it either. My suggestion is to go ahead with the purchase of the new PC. Unfortunately everyone I ever talks to commits to backing up their system everytime they get a new one, but then they never do it. It isn't until they get into the scenario that you are in do they wish otherwise. XP and VIsta will allow you to schedule a backup plan. I suggest you do this on your new PC as well as activate Recovery Console. The next time you contract a virus you know your files will not be lost since you backed them up.

I have contended with that same virus, it took me over a week to get rid of it. I run both Norton and AVG on my systems, neither one picked it up. I had to go into the registry to get rid of it. Trust me that is an area that the average user should never go.

I hope this all helps.

Fix it yourself!

Winantivirus and its scam advertising popups and the other malware (Amaena popups) that is bundled with it, is often caused by the Trojan Vundo, also known as Virtumonde.

Most "all-purpose" anti-malware products such as AVG, Norton, Spybot S & D, etc. cannot remove or even detect Vundo, as you may have found out.

VundoFix.exe has become the standard removal tool for Vundo / Virtumondo.

VundoFix.exe is a free removal tool developed to remove Virtumonde infections. To use the tool follow the instrctions on the web-site:
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/2/

Hope this helps, it does help in most cases.

Good luck.

This is hard to decide on. If the damage to the monitor makes it impossible to view things then the cost of replacing it on a laptop will cost more than just buying a new one. On the other hand if its only a small annoyance I would recommend you find some computer geek (Really we are everywhere just look) and ask them to wipe the computer and do a fresh install.

you have much good advice from the rest of the answerer's.so all I have to add,I didn't see in there responses. the anti virus protection you speak of isn't an anti virus but rather a rouge spyware app.that does as you have found out-give you virus & spyware.and then tries to get you to buy it from them to remove it.dont as it will steel your info (credit) used to buy it. good luck on what you decide to do.

Replace it. The price of repairs would almost equal the cost of a new computer.

VIRUS REMOVAL STEPS:

this will be long, tedious and frustrrating but it needs doing step by step

do this while OFFLINE!

Recycle Bin
click on recycle bin and empty it

Disk Clean:

choose os [ c ] to clean,wait,click ok [ twice ]

now go back and do disk defrag [ seleck anylize--run or ok ]

Prefetch Folder
my computer--local disk drive [ c ]--windows--prefetch
select view--select all--press delete key on keyboard

now--IF you have any protective programs [ anti-virus--anti-spyware ] installed,NOW is the time to run those.

once you are clean, return to sytem restore and turn it back on [ reverse above instructions ].

choose to create a new restore point, name it and you're done!

Vista:

getting to internet options is the same,so look at the instructions for what to do with XP above

REMEMBER TO RESET SYSTEM RESTORE AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH VIRUS CLEAN UP AND CREATE NEW RESTORE POINT !

select drive [ c ]--ok--okclick delete files

disk defrag is on the same page along with disk clean except it's called advanced tools
see XP instructions on what to do--when
