I think one of the top craziest thing is the Red Sox winning 4 in a row vs. their ARCH RIVAL yankees in the 2004 ALCS. They appeared to be absolutely down and out, but that steal by Dave Roberts in game 4 kept them alive. When you look at everything, their history and all, the Red Sox winning 4 straight versus the Yankees is probably one of the top baseball moments in the history of the game, and probably all of sports. Two words, Cowboy Up.

In 1959, during a Cubs-Cardinals game at Wrigley Field, Stan Musial checked his swing on a wild pitch. He went to first while the Cubs catcher argued with the umpire, Vic Delmore, that Musial had fouled the ball off. The ball went back to the screen, and in the excitement of the argument, the umpire gave the catcher a new ball. In the meantime, Musial, seeing that the ball had gone back to the screen and that nobody was near it, took off for second. The Cubs catcher saw this, and threw the second ball into center field while attempting to throw Musial out. In the meantime, Cubs third baseman Alvin Dark retrieved the original ball from the Cubs public address announcer, Pat Pieper, and threw it to shortstop Ernie Banks, who tagged Musial out between second and third. The umpires called Musial out because he was tagged with the original ball, disregarding the interference by the PA announcer. The home plate umpire Delmore, while not being publicly chastised for this play, was dismissed by the league following the season.

In 1986, the Red Sox were 1 strike from eliminattion in the ALCS against the Angels, then won Game 5 in California and stormed back from 3-1 deficit to win the Series.

Then barely a week later, something similar happens to them. One strike away from winning the World Series, they blow it with a wild pitch, then a grounder that Bill Buckner muffs, and Mets win Game 6 and win Series next game.

Two years later, Kirk Gibson was hobbled and couldn't walk but hit game winning walk off pinch hit home run in game 1 of Dodgers-A's World Series.

On a pergame basis, one pitcher hit TWO grand slams in the same game (can't recall name, have to check record book). Now 8 RBI's from the pitcher is wild.

That Cal Ripken not only broke Lou Gehrig record ( A record all said could never be broken ), but the way he did it.
1st. He shattered the record.
2nd. He didn't do it hiding behind The DH rule he did it playing almost every game as a Short Stop or at the Hot Corner, while most players missed games because they had a cuticle removed, .
3rd. While doing it he redefined how a Short Stop could be.

The best thing I ever saw would be an injured kirk gibson coming off the bench, with 2 outs, in the 9th inning, to homer off the best closer in baseball and win game 1 of the world series.

It has to be the Red Sox being one out away from being sweeped by the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. Then coming back to win that game and the next three to move on to the World Series.

If I hadn't seen myself I still wouldn't believe it.
