I just asked my doctor about this yesterday because I'm worried too! He said that MOST head that way in the last 3-4 weeks...before that they still have enough room to move freely so they won't stay in any one position for too long. He said 98% of them are in the right position by the time you go into labor, and still a few more turn around DURING labor. He had one woman who got to be fully dialated, and when he checked he baby had moved to butt first! So they started wheeling her to the OR and her belly just ROLLED...and when they got to the OR he checked her again and the baby had gone into the correct position and she was able to have a natural delivery at the last minute! So it's not too late until they've cut you!

The fetus moves around quite a bit, until it runs out of room.
Most babies are head down by 36 weeks, simply because of the shape of the pelvis - they fit that way!
My first son was head down a lot, but my second was all over until the last minute.
They won't worry about breech or head down until 35-36 weeks.

It's different for everyone. Sometimes the baby will turn at the last minute, sometimes it will need to be turned, and that's not always fun. There are positions to help the baby turn as well. Sometimes they just don't want to turn and you will need a section. Don't stress too much about it, Your doctor will help you decide on what to do and ask if there is something you can do at home to help aid the baby turn. Good LUck and congrats.

My baby didnt go in position until after 35 weeks. I was induced at 36 weeks so I thought I was gonna have to have a csection. They can often times turn babies now and sometimes that works but if not they will do a csection... Wish you luck and congrats.

My baby was head down at my last ultrasound and which was at 20 weeks. I would guess by 30-35 weeks the baby probably should be head down and stay pretty much that way.

The baby can 'turn" all the way to the day of birth, but usually the fetus needs to be head down by 20 weeks, and then continue to grow in that position.
