The answer is MASSACHUSETTS. The Pilgrims, as they became known, were a group of English Separatists who broke away from the CHURCH OF ENGLAND because they felt it had not completed the work of the Reformation. Committed to a life based on the Bible, this group of Puritans were often harassed because they were poor farmers, with little education and little or no political standing. A decision to come to America was made in 1617 by them, and finally on September 16, 1620 the group boarded the 180-ton ship MAYFLOWER to begin a voyage that took 65 days. They arrived at CAPE COD, but could not land because it was not the land they had contracted for. So, on Nov. 19,1620 they wrote the MAYFLOWER COMPACT to establish their own government. PLYMOUTH HARBOR, on the west side of Cape Cod, was discovered and they were able to land there on Dec. 21, 1620. The land was a bit harsher than they'd expected, and had it not been for help from friendly Native Americans they would not have survived that first year. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated the next year, and the Indians were their invited guests.
In1633, Plymouth became the "county seat" of the area, and in 1691 it became a part of the MASSACHUSETTS BAY COLONY.

Hi!!
Being a history bug by nature, and having my most famous ancestor (Clara Barton, Founder American Red Cross) be from there, your answer is Massachusetts. Oh, and the Pilgrims landed originally at Plymouth Rock, which is still called Plymouth Rock, today. You're not stupid or lazy but, maybe just a little forgetful? Or weren't paying attention in class that day? Anyway, there are your answers. Good luck with your Mom, and with school. God Bless. acountryboyinsc@yahoo.com

Having to write an essay on this, you really should know that Massachusetts Bay Company chartered the Pilgrims to set out, and the area where they landed would develop into the MA Bay Colony. However, MA was not the only colony that would develop from Pilgrim / Puritan ways of life. Rhode Island would be founded by Roger Williams, the first spokesman for the Separation of Church and State, and Anne Hutchinson, who discussed the principles of antinomianism (research that yourself). RI would therefore become a haven for people expelled from the Puritan societies of Massachusetts. Connecticut would also be founded on Puritan teachings. In conclusion, Massachusetts was the state that developed from the landing place of the Puritans / Pilgrims / Separatists / Whatever you want to call them that is correct.

Wikipedia.com is very, very handy. Try it more often.
