I have called several well drillers to work on my well and they won't do it. I believe I have a 2 inch well pipe which no longer follows code. I need the screen cleaned and I can't find anyone to work on it. Two years ago I found someone who put muric acid down it and pumped it back out. That helped, but now I can't even find anyone to do that. I live in Michigan if that makes a difference.

I don't know how deep the well is. My well pump and bladder tank are located in the basement, so I do not have a submersible pump.

My house was built in 1920 and people have referrred to my well as being hand drilled?????Not sure what this means exactly.

Keep calling. There are still well drillers who will work on 2" wells but they don't like it much. They would rather sell you a new well big enough to run a small village. Hang in there and keep calling.

I don't believe they're out to "sell you a well" they just don't have the equipment for the small wells anymore because they're simply out of code and not legal anymore.

Don't jump to conclusions here. You have a shallow well, probably in the area of 25 to 50 maybe 75 feet, it was maybe water drilled, the process. You have a sand point that you can still buy, it needs to be changed. If you had the tools you could probably do it yourself.
Ask around if there are any old drillers out there that still do these for cabins, lake homes, etc.
The big drillers probably don't have the tools, equipment for small wells.

You should think about getting a big well pounded deep, your pulling in ground water right now, you want a good deep aquifer for your own safety and health.

You have a well point. They were pounded in years ago and not used much today.Still used were there is sandy soil. The only way to clean it after all these years is with compressed air.Find the depth by tying a weight on a string and lowering it down the pipe.when you know the depth put your garden hose down to the bottom and pump large amount of compressed air in the hose.It will spurt out the top every time you put the air in but keep doing it for about 15 min.Its best if you just turn air on and off and your going to get wet. Also after you clean it the water will be cloudy for awhile, best to let it go straight out and not through the house system. You will need the biggest compresser you can find.Talk to one of the guys who fix truck tires on the road. Their truck has a good compressure and they should do it for the cost of a tire repair.

See answer no. 1. Their is no money in it for the time expenditure. They would rather drill you a 4 or 6 inch well for $5000 or more. I'm in Michigan also - I do know a couple of well drilling companies but would need to know your general location to refer you to them.

There should be a company name on the cover to your well. Call them and tell them that you have a problem with your well. Do not go into depth about the problem, let them find out when they get there. The companies that install these usually have warranties on their work, and have to fix the problem.

If this fails, you might have to just get a new well dug. This can be pretty expensive. Hope you dont have to end up doing this. Also if the company that originally installed the well won't fix it, report them to the better business bureau. If they went out of business and are no longer around, you might be out of luck.
