My 3 year old daughter has a kidney disorder that causes her to retain water. There have been many occasions where perfect strangers have made cruel comments about what they perceive to be a painfully obese child because they don't even consider she might be on meds. due to her kidneys not functioning correctly.

But, there have been just as many people who have reached out a hand to help me over the last year. I guess it is a balance, like so many things are.

Without people who are cruel and thoughtless maybe we would not come to recognize and appreciate those people who have good hearts.

The last year has taught me that some people will always have a cruel comment, but it has also taught me that some times people can be so kind and so loving that it will inspire you to try and reach out to someone else.

Why are human's what so mean? You write the word 'human" in it's possessive, not plural form, so I must construe that something that belongs to humans, not humans themselves are mean.

Discussing a completely separate train of thought, one might consider if humans are a mean species. The most basic of behavior studies correlate responses to a stimuli. If you encounter what you perceive as a mean person, it is only a response to a stimulus. Nobody believes that krap that follows the "thinking" that these are insecure people. A better question to post might address the question of why people care for each other. I think you will find this is more prevalent than your perceived meanness issues.

Just like some humans are tall and some are short?
Just like some humans are smart and some ignorant?
Some are sweet as can be, but some are the DEVIL.

I think we have the complete POLARITY of RELATIVES so we know how to measure to ONE opposite from another THAT WAY we can do the thing called "Experience" "Feelings."
happy/sad
love/fear
safe/scared
on and on....
The trick with "MEAN" people is not to take them personal. They have way more problems than you do, and misery loves
company...just keep "who you really are" in check while you are around them.

It's our emotions. Nature shows a direct correlation between the strength in the ability to feel and express emotions and cruelty. In this case I define cruelty as hostile actions toward one's own species, so basic predator/prey relationships don't count. The stronger the intelligence and intensity of emotions, the higher the likelihood of cruelty--see Jane Goodall's studies on chimpanzees for example.

Sadism and love go hand in hand--a double-edged sword that makes makes us capable of both horrific and heroic actions. It's what makes us human.

Perhaps ask why there is a desire to be better? Yes, people do terrible things to each other, to animals, to the environment... but people also can try to suppress the impulse to hurt in themselves and in others, and can nurture the impulse to help. Society, morality and ethics have, sadly, not improved at the pace of technological innovation, but there is a constant drive to improve.
If you feel strongly about this, join forces with others to make this a better place to live.

everyone isn't,and no one is all the time. it is part of human nature - and driven by emotion. if you have the cognitive ability to think, then you will think of ways to get ahead and or hurt others. it's just life - but you shouldn't generalize because it's not always like that hon. our fear of the unknown and anything different provokes it as well. and ya know, some people are just mean and stupid =D

It's perception of what mean means, get it what it means to one person it may not mean to another and what it means may or may not change with time on the average, but if I am being mean it is always because I mean to mean what I am being mean about at the time and others may take that as me being mean or me being nice in some way or sometimes someone is being mean to me and I feel as if I need to be mean back to them

Because they are the average of a sum less than the necessity, the mean of the totality.

Sadism is one step below sexuality, but one step above clear and unequivocal hatred, and thus the three oft confuse into one perversion, a twisted form of the right.

Humans have the same capacity to show kindness or cruelty than any other species on the planet. We're not that much different. You can find murder, rape, and cruelty in plenty of other species- not just humans.
