Hi, I wanted to ask, let's say for example, nba.com website

I am about the create a professional church homepage and just like this homepage, I want to create like the "In The News" type of form to use in a lot of cases and I have no idea how they manage it and what kind of tool they use to build this.

Is database and asp(or php) required to do this? How is this usually done for professional home pages?

By the way, yes~ I do know "some" php and mysql and all those lovely things. I just wanted to make sure if I'm on the right track of implementing this form. I'm assuming asp/jsp is just another type of php? and we use a web hosting service that already has php and mysql installed.

thanks a lot guys, i guess that answered this question

It's just a RSS feed which is an XML file, I think their content is linked from a data base because of the amount of content they have to manage but you don't need a data base for an RSS feed, you can make links to regular URL's, and if you want you can use javascript, excuse me "ajax", to insert links form the RSS feed into your page like they do on nba.com

Woo, you just hit a huge subject man. If you know html your on a good start for making pages, but databases and scripting languages are really quite robust subjects.

Both asp and php are good scripting languages, and as far as a database goes i would look into mysql.

If you wish to host this webserver yourself, i would look into setting up a computer with linux on it.

..Yeah, you might wanna take a course.

Usually this would require dynamic pages.
Most proffesional pages would either use a database, or be automatically updated from a certain source.
If using a regular database, there would most likely be a back-end control panel where you can manage what is being displayed on the front-end.

There are softwares availabe that are strictly for web site development.
Let me say there is much more to it then one might think.
First you need a Domain name.
There are several different companies that offer a wide range of prices for adomain name.
Next you need a Web Hosting service to host your site and put it on the Internet.
Now you need the software to develop and maintain your web page and your site.
My suggestion is to look into
Yahoo Geocities
They will search for and can supply you a Domain name and they will host your web site and they will furnish you with the software so you can Administor the site.
They offer a wide range of prices so go to Geocities.
