form the steam pipe that exploded. there is a frozen zone where NO ONE is allowed, possibly for days. what happens to all the pets????

Believe it or not, most of the pets will survive. Cats manage for long periods of time. Dogs can as well, but there's going to be some waste mess from dogs.

They may be a bit hungry/thirsty after their ordeal, but unless it's a really long absence, they will survive without permanent harm.

normally the city animal control will be contacted to attempt to retrieve those animals - it will depend on what the investigation finds -

they may be on their own for a couple of days or at least until the aspca can reach them.
