You should never be afraid to do something because of the fear of failure. Look at the job market around you. Apply for some positions you feel you may be qualified for. The worst thing that could happen is you get no return calls and you stay in the job you are currently in, which you are already prepared to do. But at least you tried. On the other hand, you may find out you are worth a whole lot more to a good company that will appreciate your work more too. Once you get a new job, then you can quit being abused at your current one.

I suggest you to stay in the job however hard it is. The market is no good right now. Keep your eyes open. You never know when a good opportunity knocks on your door. As long as you are paying bills and getting stuff done why lose the momentum. If you are without a job for a month, u are losing two months salary (i.e. Your regular pay+ Bills never stop). The saying is that keep looking for a job while you are in one. That is my sincere advice.

Take a day or two off of work and do some serious job hunting to see what else is out there. It'll be much easier to make the jump if you have something else lined up or at least know there are other opportunities around town.

Chances are very very good with a stable work history like yours - 9 years on the job- That you could take your talent elsewhere for more money and pay off your debt even sooner.

NOTHING is worth putting up with abusive people.

NO AMOUNT of money can bring back the years of happiness you loose.

My vote- get professional help with your resume and take it to a reputable head hunter who can market your talent like crazy.
Ask for more than you think you are worth and be willing to come down. **** You probably feel like you are worth less than you are after working with abusive people*****

While you are at it, research these topics- even though they are about "families" they apply to workplace environments too and have LOTS OF GOOD ADVISE that is specific to abusive relationships:
Co-dependents anonymous
Adult Children of Alchoholics

WELL YOU KNOW I NEVER QUIT A JOB WITHOUT FIRST HAVING A NEW ONE TO REPLACE IT WITH. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO FAIL BECAUSE THEN YOU WILL NEVER SUCCEED. SOMETIMES WE TAKE WHAT WE LEARNED IN FAILURE AND APPLY IT TO THE NEXT STAGE AND IT HELPS US TO SUCCEED. TAKE NOTE....IF YOU DO WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS GOTTEN. DON'T REMEMBER WHO SAID IT BUT IT STUCK WITH ME. I HOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION IN A WAY WHERE IT STILL ALLOWS YOU TO MAKE THE CHOICE YOURSELF.

Start looking for one now, then when you get a job, tell the old job where to go in a hurry!
