If they intend to interrogate/torture him for information now, why did they even announce his capture?

prc---but just monitoring the guy would have betrayed their location if he was in contact with them.

Morgan--but we already know al-qaeda is linked to Iraq....it is NOW because of the invasion but we all know it wasn't BEFORE the invasion.

My point may be misconstrued-----if this guy was the connection, why didn't they let him lead us to the inner circle himself without his knowledge??

Because linking al-qaida to Iraq is much more important, didn't you know? The R's are looking grim these days and there's a little what they like to call "spin control" going on.

Yes, we already know. The problems is the R's don't give us enough credit for knowing and want to remind us "Just in Time" for elections, Damn the consequences.

He was captured two weeks ago. You don't have any idea how much vital "intel" this guy has passed on and neither do I. They announced his capture in hopes of further demoralizing the ranks of his followers. Don't forget, we also took out the military Emir of Al Queda in Iraq a few days ago with a JDAM bomb. It also sends a subtle message to the anti-American media and the anti-Bush elements in the U.S. media. This guy was the media director for Al Queda in Iraq. So, when no more little videotapes show up on Al Jazeera and no more stories intended to show America is losing show up on some web site, the reporters involved won't bug us about what happened to their "source".

If you anounce something right away, people scatter like roaches. Keeping it quiet gives the military time to analyze his statements, if he talks at all, and set up special operations based on this new intelligence. The public has a need to know, but I think they did the exact right thing by keeping it out of the news for a while.

Extremists use the news and other media sources to thier advantage. so now they have what they need and by announcing a capture it may create others to move around and give up their location.

You can be sure they waited until the optimal time to pick him up. Then they waited until keeping his capture a secret was of no further value before they announced it.

Torture? No good information is ever extracted by torturing someone.
