I just read this answer, and it made me ask this question. The question was, What would happen if our military was primarily liberal? One answerer replied with "No chance of that, our military doesn't want educated people."
Do you think our men and women who serve to protect your freedoms are uneducated? If so, why? Why are they considered dumb protecting your freedom?

I certainly don't think this, this really makes my blood boil since my wonderful husband is in the military and is over fighting the enemy.

Whoever answered that way was an ID1OT! I was in the military AFTER college, and those that I served with were a variety. I would say that 70% of them were very smart (book smart that is) and 99% of them were street smart...unless you look at the officers who were typically more liberal, and though usually higher education levels, they were absolutely ignorant when it comes to common sense about 70% of the time. With this I am referring to the pencil pushing officers. Those I served with in Iraq 1 were brilliant...except one.
I wonder if it was John Kerry who responded that way.

Absolutely not. Almost every field in the military today requires soldiers to use very technical equipment. You must have good math skills and be intelligent enough to think on your feet under pressure to move into the leadership positions. There are still a few jobs where the lazy people who would not make an effort to educate themselves can hide , but for the majority of military people are very intelligent.

Absolutely not! Most of the military either have college degrees, or a highschool diploma. They also have guts, strength, fortitude, endurance, love of God and country, love of family, and children's safety, bravery, heart, and they must know what our American forefather's did for us. That means they know history, and the pain that was suffered for us. That doesn't seem uneducated to me. That is what America is all about!
To Soldier's: Even it was true, that yall were dumb as a rock, I would rather be like you, than a Liberal fool.
I love you, and so does America. Thank you!

No, the majority of our troops are better educated than a typical congressman. when I served our people were High School grads or better. Add to that you have to take a test to enlist and an uneducated person will not pass it. People that consider our soldiers uneducated have most likely not served themselves and only have the haziest idea of what it takes to be a soldier.

Hell no!
My best friend's husband is a SSGT, and right now, he is finishing up his masters in engineering. Sound uneducated to you? Not to me.
I think that the person was severely misinformed. Obviously, they were trying to be whitty and sarcastic. Instead it was an insult to all those in a uniform.
Are there people in the military that are not very educated? I'm sure there are. But there are also uneducated people answering questions on Yahoo! Answers, and running our nation in DC. No one questions their intelligence.

No. The majority of our military are very well educated. Most doctors join the military to pay for their schooling.
My husband is an Army Recruiter. 90% of the people who want to join the military are unable to pass the test.

Wow that is an ignorant person. While there are many stupid people in the military, there are many stupid people everywhere. I was enlisted for 6 years. In that time I completed my Bachelors and my Masters and now work for a leading government consulting firm. I was a linguist and there were extremely bright individuals that served with me. The Military is a great opportunity for advancement and experience for people who may not have the opportunities of others. They help pay for school, provide a stable income, and you can do things that you couldn't anywhere else.

The military today is the best informed force in history. Their ability to keep going with all the negative press back home is commendable. While they slug it out in 110 plus degrees the so called leadership in congress waste time trying to surrender. Every American should be grateful for the job our service members are doing under adverse conditions.

Those who refuse to serve are the ones who are uneducated. They evidently haven't been taught the importance of civic participation and defense of this nation and its Constitution.
When a choice is available, vote for the "uneducated" veteran. At least you know that the vet was once willing to sacrifice life and limb to preserve this country and your freedom.

I think that you have a reason to be angry and if I were you I would email that person to let him know how angry you are. I know several young man that are over there that are very well educated and very intelligent. Now do I believe in this war? That is another question. I think the man who put our young men in harms way is very wrong and I do not have much respect for his decisions. I do not like the fact that so many of our young men are dying for no good reason and for something that the intelligent young men that I mentioned feel will not be won. Iraq has been the way it is for too long for us to really think we can change things. I am glad they have remove Saddam but that is the only thing I can tell that has been really accomplished so far. Good luck to your husband and to you. I know it is hard to hear negative things when it is so personal for you. However, we have a lot of narrow minded people in our world... do not let that bother you.
