It seems I was warned by my puter geek buddy (that would be a compliment :) that not to download the Yahoo Messenger nor the tool bars etc ? Comments please from those who know ?

Yahoo messenger and the toolbar are fine. But messanger has a feature in it taht allows you to share files with contacts and download files from contacts. THis is what your friend was probably warnign about.

Darcy W ^ seems to be smoking crack. Both toolbar and messenger are safe and virus free.
Just never click on any link that is sent to you in messenger and scan any file transfers with your anti-virus before you open them. But this advice applies to ANY Messenger not just Yahoo's

Well IM (instant messenger) is safe, but not the tool bar. I got a virus from it. Don't download the second version of IM i got a virus from that too.
