If you were to look under your car when you did that you would see that the steering has an adjuster bolt that hits a "stop". It actually can be adjusted to turn even harder than it is now, but isn't because of general tire sizes, and possible rim sizes that the car "could have"
In answer to your question, NO problemo

On a hard pull to the far left or far right and held longer then 5 to 10 seconds, can put extra strain pressure on the steering pump and high pressure hose (also can cause excessive belt squeal).

it's not bad for a properly working system: however, when you turn your wheel with power steering your putting a load on the hydraulics and the more you turn the wheel the greater the load and the greater chance of busting a line or pump.

it is your power steering. you need a new pump for it. i guess it is possible to replace it your self. see.. your power steering is a mechnaism in your car that makes steering a whole lot easier. with out power steering, your car would be very hard to turn, and you would have to wrench it back into position. you said that sometimes it wont come back? well that is definetly a problem with power steering.

When you turn the wheel to either lock position it puts some more strain on the parts and the pump. That is why sometimes you will hear the pump groaning when the wheel is turned hard to either locked position.

Just dont sit there and hold it in that place while sitting at a stop light or something. But if you are making a turn what are you suppose to do? Sometimes yes you do need to turn it all the way.
