The brain doesnt store data in bits and bytes like a computer.
It stores it in a vastly complex neural network, composed of billions of synapses.

We cant even represent a cubic centermetre of the brain in a computer, because we dont know how it stores knowledge (brain store knowledge, not data).

Artificial intelligence theory is actually light years away from even anything remotely like the human brain

I think this will never happen. Emerson Pugh once said 'If the brain was so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we cant'

And I think hes right :-)

To actually read and write the brain at a decent bandwidth, you'll need a lot of imaging and processing hardware embedded in it. And since those devices will likely be using a wireless network to communicate among themselves, extending that network beyond the head will probably be cheaper than drilling the holes for a USB port.

We won't need ports or anything, we should be able to control the world using just thoughts. If I wanted to switch the oven on, just send a 'brain pluse' to the oven and it would switch itself on at the required temperature. We would also be able to enter data into a computer via thoughts.

Voice technology is already here and has been for some time, as has biometrics. Brainwaves can be scanned, so if a transmitter could be worn, this could be possible.

Its possible to put a USB port into your brain today, but it might hurt a bit.

We won't even need a USB port, it will be something completely different. There is a theory that has been developed explaining that technology nd gadgets are getting smalled and more advanced. Eventually there will be something that can read our brainwaves, and do what they want.

Well, first we need to understand how the brain works, and by the time that happens I guarantee USB will be totally obsolete. So, no.

The brain, even though we have not even come close to mastering its capabilities, is so far advanced beyond the world's greatest technologies, that there is no point to even considering that question.

Well, it's possible. But that's not really what USB is designed for... ;) I'm sure if that kind of thing is possible we will think of something much less uncomfortable.

Ever see "The President's Analyst"? We are getting there. I kind of hope to have a personal hard drive built in. I forget too many formulas and facts.
