Big open mouthed baby kisses. My 11month old gives those. I ask her for a "Kiss" and lean my cheek in and I sometimes get an open mouth slobbering. It's wonderful. I know she has a slight handle on what it is because I make sure to I'm going to kiss her just before I do. Something along the lines of, "Ooo, I'm gonna kiss the baby! Kisses!" *smooch smooch* "Kiss kiss." *smooch smooch*

I, too, love babies, and function wanted to be a mom my finished life. yet i did not have my first till i became 30, and that i'm SO happy I waited. they are eye-catching, useful, kissable, attractive ... yet they are additionally demanding, laborious and in some cases even infuriating. Oh, and expensive! there isn't something in the international like conserving your useful infant for the 1st time, understanding which you grew this useful little life interior you. there is likewise not something in the international like being up for the tenth time with a baby who won't sleep and screams inconsolably and can't inform you what is incorrect. Or a baby who throws a 40 5-minute tantrum because of the fact you're out of bananas.

When my daughter was less than 6 months old or even lesser and I would go to the kitchen, bathroom and come back.. i notice the look in her eyes that say "where were you, i missed you" that is more than I love you.
But to her dad who went to work all day..as soon as he came home she would spend an easy 5 minutes kissing him all over his face..AT 6 MONTHS!!!
Now that she is older, she says " I love you" all the time and I take it as a great award for being a good mother!

I don't care what any expert says about the "concept of love" per say....babies can feel love and show love. If you are a parent you are aware of that.
My six month old daughter shows me she loves me the most right before naps and before bedtime. She has taken to touching my face and stroking my cheek. I think it's because I've done it so often to her, especially when she was a really small newborn and I was in awe of having her, I was always gently touching her little face and now she does it to me. Those moments are the best ones in my entire day.

The way my son melts into me when I hold him, the way his face lights up when he gets my attention, the way his little fingers trail over my face while he nurses, these are just a few of the ways my baby tells me he loves me.

My daughter is also 4 months and when she see's one of us she will get this really big smile ang start to laugh. Also if you kiss her by her mouth she will grab your face and start licking or sucking your chin. It is really slobbery but it makes your whole day. Lol!!!

They know that you care for them at that age, and they know that you are the one that is the nuturing one. I felt that my daughter conveyed love to me from her first smile. But they can tell you verbally later. My daughter started saying it to me around 18 months of age. She would come up to either my husband/her father or I, rest her head on our leg, arm, or whatever she could, and say "Aww. . .Baby. . ." She now comes up to us and says "I love you" (she is 2).

My one month old hugs my arm with his feet while he nurses. That and the way he looks at me when I take him from someone once he starts crying.

I like all of your responses, but emotionally, babies don't understand the concept of love, their world revolves around them. However, they grasp that they are being nurtured and in turn learn social skills by how their care givers interact with them. It is only the time and the devotion of parents that instill the concept of love in your babies. Anyway the process is very rewarding.
