I would only marry a man if I was in love with him. Marriage is not about liking someone enough to help them get a green card. If you go into thinking about marriage like that than the only thing you are going to wind up is divorced as soon as he has it.

I'm about your age and I'd talk about it with you if you want. First off, I hate to disappoint you but he wants the green-card. I mean you're 17, you met 2 months ago and this guy is thinking about marriage? He's 24 and already has a 5 year old. He must have divorced his wife to marry for the green-card. Now, I'm not just saying that. If he tells you his visa is expiring and then asking you to marry him, what's a bigger hint? He's using his son as a emotional argument. He has 3 jobs and came to study here, it looks like he REALLY needs to get over here to support himself. Nobody can fall in 'love' that easily. At least if it's true love. He's 7 years older than you and as a kid, you're a teen and you're thinking about marrying him? Countries that have more poverty in them are more likely to want the greencard. If he was from England and was asking you to marry him it's different. Every guy is different from a past love interest. He's just trying to get on you and play you. Not in a use you for your body way but use you for the sake of using you! I don't think any guy would admit to using you as a reason for a greencard. What type of guy would say 'I'm using you for a greencard, marry me.' It doesn't happen. Trust me, people close to me have been betrayed like that. Once the guy/girl got to the country they just ran away from the airport and left the person.

Is there a rush? Mind you this has been happening for years with varying results. Marriage is a tough enough decision but when a benefit such as a green card comes into play it ends up being a conflict of interest. Does he like you, or what you can provide him (green card). If you're doing it just to help him out because you care about him thats different. But if you're expecting a normal marriage i'd be wary unless you knew he was the one. Good luck!

I would definitely only marry for love. My husband is a Canadian, and we ended up eloping 5 months before our actual wedding was planned for many reasons. One of them being that we wanted to hurry up and get his papers in and residency set up so he could work as soon as possible (since we decided to stay in the U.S. for the time being). So, in a sense, I guess you could say we got married to get his green card, but it's also a very happy, legit marriage. We were going to be married anyway, we just needed it to be sooner rather than later.

Marriage should only be for two people in love, you don't go into a contract for the rest of your life knowing that you're likely to be breaking it or that you just don't know.

He needs to get his green card the old fashioned way... by buying a fake one in a dark alley for $50 ;-)

Perhaps he likes you because he can get a green card. Marriage was designed to be for two people who are in love and want to stay together for the rest of there lives. However like the movie "green card" you might fall deep in love with him like they did in the movie. Its up to you but I would really proceed cautiously.

Fraud is fraud. If the INS figures this out, he'll be deported and can't ever return. You'll never be able to marry the "one" if he's an alien because INS won't give you any benefit of the doubt.

Bad plan.

Wrong reason to marry, and illegal. If we were getting married anyway then yes, we would marry. But only because it was already planned.

Only if we were going to get married anyway.

No, no, no and no again. What are you thinking? Marriage is a sacrament not a step into citizenship.
