I thought the original rear end was in my 70 Monte Carlo, but the code stamped on the axle shaft doesn't match anything I can find. It is 077 WC. I need to get axle seals, and some other stuff, but can't figure this out. Help!

New Departure or American Axle or Saginaw Gear made the rear end. Now do you go to the discount auto supply or the Classic Parts people. Choice is Year one or Classic Chevy parts on line but do call them they can take the axle tube number and translate it into meaningfull parts that fit and work right. Pinion seal leaks are the sign of to much pinion freeplay. So a word of caution restoring a nice first gen Monti with swivel seats... Spent the money replace the ring and pinion gear now....Limited slip or detroit locker?
